  • Manchester City guilty of all charges related to financial rules, Premier League confirms | BBC News
The Premier League has confirmed that Manchester City have been found guilty of all charges related to breaches of Premier League financial rules between 2009-10 and 2017-18.
An independent Commission found that during that time period, the club arranged "sham contracts" with a number of its commercial partners, as well as "relying on sham agreements to artificially inflate the club's revenues and reduce its costs".
The statement also said that City were guilty of the majority of charges in relation to its failure to co-operate.
Meanwhile, a City statement said the club was "both disappointed and surprised by the opinion of the Premier League Commission".
"The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case," the statement said.
The statement added that Manchester City FC will now pursue the appeal avenues open to it.

  • Lives 'will be lost' unless UK does more to combat wildfires, experts warn | BBC News
Lives "will be lost" unless the UK does more to prepare for wildfires, experts warn, after a record-breaking summer saw 1,350 wildfires in England and Wales alone.
"Tinderbox" conditions created by a long, hot, dry summer brought the worst wildfire season on record in 2026.
Dozens of homes were destroyed or damaged, huge areas of land burned, and one man died.
The UK government banned disposable barbecues, sent a wildfire alert to people's mobile phones and made £97m available, and a wildfire summit is planned - but are we still behind the curve?
In this episode of Behind the Investigation, Melanie Stewart-Smith speaks to Adrian Goldberg from File on 4 Investigates about what he found on the ground.

  • Spain announces new housing measures after protests over eviction of woman, 87 | BBC News
Spain's coalition government has approved new housing measures following protests over the country's housing crisis, sparked by the eviction of an 87-year-old woman from her home in Madrid last week.
Ministers met on Tuesday to discuss the proposals, which include a potential ban on evictions until 2030, Health Minister Mónica García said.
She said the measures would bring relief to more than five million people - but opposition politician Míriam Nogueras said the agreement left "small landlords out in the cold”.
The new housing measures need to be approved in parliament, where the leftist coalition government lacks a majority.

Brits seeking mental health support are travelling overseas for psychedelic therapy.
The treatments involve substances such as psilocybin and ayahuasca, both of which are illegal under UK law.
