  • Demand for Indian mangoes soar as cargo fees rise | BBC News
Entrepreneurs in New Jersey are making it big importing mangoes from India.
Yakin Shah and Bharat Kumar Parasana import about $20,000-worth at a time and sell them to their neighbours through WhatsApp.
Bharat said he spent more than $1 million importing the fruit last year.
This year, however, he’s spending more due to the war in the Middle East pushing up flight prices.
Mango correspondent Samira Hussain finds that in one New Jersey grocery store, a mango that typically goes for roughly 70 cents in India will sell for $5.

  • Is Israel collapsing a US-Iran deal over Lebanon? | BBC News
The US and Iran still need to work out several sticking points before an agreement on the war can be reached, Vice-President JD Vance has said.
Asked by the BBC if President Donald Trump was close to signing a deal, Vance said it was too early to say "when or if" the two sides would finalise an agreement.
Meanwhile, waves of Israeli strikes have hit southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, according to the Israeli military.
The escalation threatens to derail talks aimed at ending the war between the US and Israel on one side and Iran on the other.
Iran insists that any deal must also cover Lebanon. Israel says it reserves the right to continue to fight the threat from Hezbollah.

  • The Brighton beach deaths driving a debate about race | Top Comment Podcast
An inquest has opened into the deaths of three sisters whose bodies were recovered from the sea off the coast of Brighton. The case has led to rampant speculation online, particularly after it emerged that a widely shared image provided by family members appeared to be AI-generated.
From unfounded conspiracies about serial killers, to a broader debate over the handling of cases involving black people, it has captivated TikTok sleuths, some of whom are even turning on each other.
On this episode of Top Comment, Marianna and Matt discuss why the case is receiving so much attention, and how race has played a leading role in the discourse.

  • What is Israel's plan in Gaza, as Netanyahu expands control? | Global News Podcast
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he has directed the Israel Defense Forces to increase its control of Gaza to 70 percent - a significant change to the "yellow line" of demarcation set by the US-brokered ceasefire agreement last year.
Mr Netanyahu said Israel was "squeezing Hamas", as the IDF advances further into territory controlled by the militant group. Analysts say the operation is pushing Palestinian civilians into a smaller and smaller strip of land.
This comes just days after the Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz spoke about plans for a large number of Palestinians to "voluntarily emigrate" from Gaza. Human rights groups have warned that this may amount to the forced displacement of civilians - which could be considered a war crime. Some right-wing voices in Israel have called for Jewish settlements to be established in Gaza, the way they have in the occupied West Bank.
Under the 20-point plan put forward by US President Donald Trump, the next phase of the Gaza peace plan would see Hamas disarm and Israeli troops withdraw, but indirect talks have stalled, as Hamas refuses to give up its weapons.
Our Middle East correspondent Yolande Knell tells us what Israel's next move could be, and how the Israeli elections could influence Mr Netanyahu's policy in Gaza.

  • Why Call of Duty in Korea could be 'controversial' | BBC News
The next Call of Duty game has been revealed, with much of the reaction focused on its campaign set around a fictional renewed conflict on the Korean Peninsula.
Modern Warfare 4, due out 23 October, partly follows South Korean soldiers battling a full-scale North Korean invasion.
Dr Sarah Son, Senior Lecturer in Korean Studies at the University of Sheffield, said the move "could be controversial" as it "turns still-unresolved war into entertainment". Some Koreans reacted more positively, with one calling Korea's inclusion in one of gaming's biggest franchises a "symbolic moment".
Developer Infinity Ward said the game will be "grounded in the military authenticity Modern Warfare is known for".

  • Scott Galloway on the fight for US men | Americast
There was a gender divide in the US in 2024 and one of the criticisms of the failed Democrat presidential campaign was that they appealed to women and largely ignored men.
So, with the midterms coming up, and the 2028 battle lines being drawn, how much is are political conversations going to centre around who can attract the male vote?
Justin’s been talking to a man who’s been thinking about that very question.

We speak to BBC religion editor Aleem Maqbool about the Pope’s AI-critical encyclical. We ask why the Pope decided to make AI the focus of his speech and why it's so significant that he did.

  • Russian drone hits Romanian apartment block | BBC News
A Russian drone hit an apartment block in Romania causing a fire and wounding two people, officials say.
The incident happened on Friday in the town of Galati - close to Romania's eastern border with Ukraine and Moldova.
Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte said "Russia's reckless behaviour is a danger to us all", while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Russia's "war of aggression had crossed yet another line".
Russian drones have strayed across Romania's border a number of times during the four-year war with Ukraine, but it is the first time citizens from the Nato country have been hurt. Russia has yet to comment on the incident.
