  • Should we follow President Trump and dump AI for SI?
Has Donald Trump just rebranded AI? This week, the US President declared that "Artificial Intelligence" sounds too fake and should be renamed "Super Intelligence" instead.
Whether "SI" catches on remains to be seen, but as the world debates what to call the technology, a much bigger question is emerging: who gets to control it?
In this episode of AI Decoded we examine a pivotal week for artificial intelligence as Donald Trump meets Chinese President Xi Jinping, with AI high on the agenda.
Joining the panel are Parmy Olson, Bloomberg technology columnist and author of Supremacy, and Winston Ma, former executive at China Investment Corporation, alongside AI Decoded co-host Priya Lakhani. Together they explore the intensifying AI rivalry between the world's two superpowers, competing visions for regulating the technology, and whether international cooperation is still possible.

  • What Channing Tatum tells us about the psychology of burner accounts | Top Comment Podcast
After years spent sheltering from the public gaze, Hunter Biden re-entered the mainstream consciousness last summer via a surprise YouTube appearance alongside prominent alternative media figure Andrew Callaghan. The interview went viral, and ever since the embattled son of former president Joe Biden has seen his online reputation soar.
On this episode, Matt and Marianna track Biden Jr's journey from ridicule to redemption, and ask whether he has fumbled that newly found following with a dubious crypto enterprise, an all-too-familiar fall from grace in the age of the internet.
Also this week, actor Channing Tatum has denied he is behind an Instagram 'burner' account which was critical of his ex-partners, despite being its only follower.
Sleuths had discovered comments across several posts which appeared to support him while calling out Jenna Dewan, Zoe Kravitz and others.
We discuss the broader phenomenon of anonymous celeb-run accounts, examples of identities being uncovered, and the psychology of lurking online.
Top Comment is hosted by Marianna Spring and Matt Shea.

  • BBC challenges ex-hospital boss over maternity unit failings | BBC News
This is the moment BBC Correspondent Michael Buchanan caught up to a former medical director who refused to cooperate with a review into failings at Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust which found that 155 babies may have survived with better care.
As part of her review, Donna Ockenden said 66 former and current senior NUH colleagues were approached, with only 35 interviewed. Keith Girling and other former executives failed to attend.
Girling replied "no comment" when questioned by the BBC about why he refused to speak to the Ockenden review.

  • Iran's foreign minister submits new plan to reopen Strait of Hormuz | BBC News
Iran's Foreign Minister, at the United Nations in New York, says mediators have submitted a new plan to the White House, that would pave the way for the Strait of Hormuz to reopen within a week.
The Strait is a key waterway through which twenty percent of the world's oil supplies passed, before the war. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that talks with the US on other issues, including Iran's nuclear programme, would start afterwards.

  • What next after US President Donald Trump loses his fight with the press? | BBC Americast
The US president has lost his court battle with CNN, Politico and MS NOW in the latest battle between Donald Trump and the media. What did the judge say and what happens next?
At the end of the last week Donald Trump banned three news outlets - CNN, Politico and MS Now - from reporting inside the White House. But the ban has been overturned - for now - in an emergency hearing by a federal judge, who ordered the banned journalists’ press credentials be immediately reinstated for 14 days.
It’s still not entirely clear what prompted Donald Trump to punish the outlets although it’s been reported that it may have been prompted by negative coverage he was shown by his aide, Natalie Harp.
In this episode, Justin, Anthony and Marianna speak to former CNN correspondent, anchor and bureau chief Frank Sesno, who is now a Journalism professor at The George Washington School of Media and Public Affairs. The latest row comes at a difficult moment for the president who’s fighting historically low approval ratings and an unpopular war in Iran. It’s yet to be seen what the president will do next after the judgement or if it’s a sign of growing pressure ahead of November’s midterm elections.

  • Internet restricted in Ethiopia's Tigray region as fighting breaks out | BBC News
Services provided by state-owned telecoms operator Ethio Telecom have been completely cut, although those from the much smaller private firm Safaricom remain operational.
Internet monitoring group NetBlocks earlier posted on X that network data indicated a sub-national internet shutdown in northern Tigray.
Clashes between Tigrayan forces and their allies and Ethiopia's federal troops broke out on Wednesday, prompting heightened tension and reports of panic buying.
During the two-year civil which ended in 2022, Tigray was totally cut off from the outside world.
Limited access to cash, food and medicine pushed hundreds of thousands into famine-like conditions.
The BBC has contacted Ethiopian authorities for comment.
