  • The White House launches ‘Trump TV’ after media ban | BBC News
The White House has launched an online television channel called ‘Trump TV’, hours after major television networks in the US suspended their pooled coverage in protest of CNN, Politico and MS NOW being barred from the White House.
Trump TV operates a 24/7 feed of clips of the president. Initial coverage included Trump taking part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Marine One helipad on the White House South Lawn, but his comments were inaudible.
The three media organisations banned from the White House filed a lawsuit on Monday in US District Court in Washington.

  • Russia's true death toll in the Ukraine war | The Global Story
While Russia’s president Vladimir Putin continues to insist that his, “special military operation” in Ukraine is succeeding, the estimated number of Russian soldiers killed and wounded in this war tells another story; 1.4 million casualties since February 2022. For that loss, Russia has gained just 2% of Ukraine’s land.
This is the story Vladimir Putin is not telling Russians. Amid parliamentary elections this past weekend, the Kremlin has claimed that most Russians back the president and the war, and it has promoted the political careers of thousands of soldiers back from Ukraine.
But what of their fallen comrades? The BBC’s Olga Ivshina has dedicated the last four years of her career to not just counting Russia’s true death toll, but building a picture of who these lost men were. She joins The Global Story's Tristan Redman to discuss what she has learnt.

  • German Chancellor Merz calls state election a 'disaster' for his party but vows to stay | BBC News
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has called two local election defeats for his party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), a "disaster" but vowed to remain in post.
In the north-eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the CDU fell short of a 5% threshold to enter parliament, underperforming against what had already been projected to be the party's worst ever result in the area.
Far-right Alternative for Germany was on track to win the most votes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, but it is unlikely to govern as other parties refuse to work with it.
Meanwhile in Berlin, the ruling CDU was on course to be beaten by Die Linke (The Left).
