  • Volodymyr Zelensky due to meet European leaders for high-level Ukraine talks | BBC News
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky is meeting key European leaders in London on Monday, as Ukraine's allies plan their response to an ongoing US push for Kyiv to accept concessions in peace talks.
The leaders of France and Germany will join Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at No 10 Downing Street as they seek to ensure any deal deters a future Russian attack.
The high-level meeting follows three days of talks in Florida, where Zelensky's chief negotiator pushed for changes to a White House plan widely considered to accommodate central Kremlin demands.
The US and Ukraine said there was progress but US President Donald Trump appeared to criticise Zelensky on Sunday, saying he "hasn't read" the draft.

Thousands of civilians along the Thailand-Cambodia border are fleeing after an escalation of violence between the two countries.
A Thai military spokesperson said air force jets bombed Cambodian military positions after a Thai soldier was killed in an exchange of fire along the disputed border.

Both sides have accused each other of starting the violence, which is the most serious confrontation since their agreed ceasefire in July.
Clashes have also been reported in Thailand's north-eastern Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.

  • Dozens dead after drone strikes on Sudan kindergarten and hospital | BBC News
Dozens dead after reported drone strikes on Sudan kindergarten and hospital | BBC News
A series of drone strikes have reportedly targeted a kindergarten, a hospital and rescue teams in southern Sudan.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the paramilitary group battling the army in Sudan's civil war, was accused of the attack by a medical organisation, the Sudan Doctors' Network, and the army.
The RSF in turn accused the army of hitting a market on Friday in a drone attack in the Darfur region, on a fuel depot at the Adre border crossing with Chad.
Sudan has been ravaged by war since April 2023 when a power struggle broke out between the RSF and the army, who were formerly allies.

  • Nightclub fire kills 25 in Goa, India, officials say | BBC News
A fire at a popular nightclub in the coastal region of Goa in India has killed 25 people, according to local officials.
Most of the victims are believed to be staff at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, located near a popular beach. Tourists are also said to be among the dead.
Police believe a gas cylinder exploded in the club's kitchen, causing a blaze to rip through the venue on Saturday at midnight local time.
Most of the bodies were found near the kitchen "suggesting that the victims were employed at the club", said Alok Kumar, Goa's Director General of Police.
Goa's chief minister Pramod Sawant said "three to four" tourists had died but did not provide their ages or nationalities.

  • BBC confronts man bulk-buying and reselling UK driving tests | BBC News
Driving instructors are being offered kickbacks of up to £250 a month to sell their official test-booking login details to touts, a BBC investigation has found.
Touts use these login details to book driving tests in bulk and sell them to learners on WhatsApp and Facebook, charging as much as £500 for tests that should cost no more than £75.
This makes it harder for learners to book through legitimate routes and adds to already lengthy waiting times.
The BBC confronted Anil Ahmed, who buys driving instructors' login details and then sells tests online at a mark-up. He says the claims we put to him are a "complete fabrication".
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander recently announced plans to change driving test rules, which it is hoped will stop touts and reduce the backlog. Only learners - not instructors - will be able to book test slots from spring 2026.
