  • Donald Trump calls for FBI probe into Jeffrey Epstein and Bill Clinton | BBC News
President Donald Trump said Friday that he will direct US Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Jeffrey Epstein's involvement with former President Bill Clinton and other prominent Democrats and financial institutions.
Trump said he was demanding a probe into "Jeffrey Epstein's involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions".
The move comes as questions grow over Trump’s own long-standing relationship with Epstein and lawmakers prepare a vote to force disclosure.

  • Mass killings probe in Sudan will hold culprits to account, UN says | BBC News
An independent fact-finding mission will investigate reported mass killings in the Sudanese city of el-Fasher, the UN announced on Friday.
More than 150,000 people have been killed and about 12 million have had no choice but to flee their homes.
El-Fasher was captured last month by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group following an 18-month siege. It was the last city in Darfur held by the army and its allies.
The RSF has been accused of targeting non-Arab groups in the city and elsewhere in Darfur - a claim it has denied.

  • Inside the corruption investigation engulfing Zelensky allies in the Ukrainian government | BBC News
Ukraine has been rocked by a major corruption scandal surrounding the country's energy sector, amidst ongoing Russian attacks on electricity infrastructure. An alleged $100m scheme, involving money laundering and kick backs, has led to the resignation of senior ministers and engulfed prominent allies of Volodymyr Zelensky.
But despite the president's public backing of the probe, questions are being asked about what government officials knew, just months after mass protests against controversial attempts to curb the independence of state anti-corruption bodies.
This week, Lucy Hockings and Vitaly Shevchenko are joined by Ukraine correspondent James Waterhouse, and BBC Verify's Olga Robinson. They discuss the fallout from the fifteen-month investigation, and answer all of your questions.
Could we see a western-backed referendum in the occupied territories? Will Ukraine reduce the age of conscription? And how much do Russia and the US cooperate beyond headline diplomacy?

  • Russian drone slams into block of flats in deadly wave of strikes across Kyiv | BBC News
A Russian drone has rammed through a block of flats in eastern Kyiv, during a wave of strikes throughout the Ukrainian capital that has killed six people and wounded 35 others.
One Kyiv resident said the drone had pierced the building, exploding on the other side.
Condemning Russia's overnight attacks as vile and calculated, President Volodymyr Zelensky said about 430 drones and 18 missiles had been launched and dozens of high-rise buildings damaged.
Russia said its attacks on energy targets - now a familiar part of the war - are aimed at the Ukrainian military, although Kyiv has long rejected that claim.

  • Four killed in wave of Russian strikes across Kyiv, officials say | BBC News
Four people have died and dozens more have been wounded in a wave of Russian drone and missile strikes on Kyiv, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Condemning the strikes as vile and calculated, Zelensky said about 430 drones and 18 missiles had been launched and dozens of high-rise buildings damaged.
Kyiv's energy infrastructure was badly hit, leaving some buildings in the capital without heat, officials said. Ukraine's air force said several other regions across the country were also targeted.
The Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk was hit in an overnight Ukrainian attack. Fire broke out at the major Sheskharis oil refinery, and a ship and apartment blocks were hit, officials said.

  • BBC apologises to Donald Trump but refuses to pay $1bn compensation | BBC News
The BBC has apologised to US President Donald Trump for a Panorama episode which spliced parts of a speech together, but rejected his demands for compensation.
The corporation also said it would not show the programme again.
Lawyers for Trump have threatened to sue the BBC for $1bn (£759m) in damages unless the corporation issues a retraction, apologises and compensates him.
The apology comes after a second similarly edited clip, broadcast on Newsnight in 2022, was revealed by the Daily Telegraph.

  • Is Keir Starmer in control of the narrative at Downing Street? | BBC News
Today we look at the latest in claims of briefings coming out of Number 10.
The prime minister's chief of staff Morgan McSweeney was not involved "directly or indirectly" in briefings against cabinet ministers and will not be leaving his job, sources have told the BBC.
Some in government have blamed McSweeney for being the source of the briefings.
McSweeney has not responded to calls for comment but people who have spoken to him have told the BBC: "He's done absolutely nothing wrong. He's not going anywhere."
To discuss it, Adam is joined by chief political correspondent, Henry Zeffman and Tom Baldwin, former senior Labour adviser and author of ‘Keir Starmer: The Biography’.
