Following Graham Platner being accused of sexual assault, Democrats have called on him to drop out of the race considered pivotal to their chances of gaining control of the US Senate.

  • Inside a Bangladesh hospital during a deadly measles outbreak | BBC News
Before a deadly outbreak this year, Bangladesh had made "substantial progress" towards eliminating measles, according to the World Health Organisation. Vaccination rates had been higher than 90%.
But that progress has quickly come undone. Since March, government figures show nearly 750 people have died, mostly children. The death toll includes confirmed and suspected cases of measles. But Unicef says the true numbers are likely higher.
Government figures show more than 120,000 suspected and confirmed measles cases since mid-March, and there are still nearly 1,000 new cases daily.
But why has this happened? The BBCs’ South Asia Correspondent Azadeh Moshiri reports from a measles ward in the Bangladeshi city of Mymensingh.

  • Iran threatens any country helping US as Trump says "ceasefire is over" | BBC News
The US has launched a new round of strikes on Iran after President Donald Trump said the ceasefire was over and signalled he'd "hit them hard again" following an overnight exchange of attacks.
Explosions have been reported by Iranian state media in parts of the country's south, including Sirik and Bandar Abbas - port cities on the Strait of Hormuz.
After the latest strikes, Trump said in a post on Truth Social: "This is in retribution for yesterday's bombing of ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse!"
Iranian State television aired a statement on Wednesday from the country's joint military command, warning countries in the region that "providing support" to the U.S. will make them "a legitimate target".

The Iranian authorities warned any attack from the US would be met with an "immediate response".
US Central Command (Centcom) said the latest strikes were carried out to "further degrade Tehran's ability to threaten freedom of navigation" in the vital waterway.
In a statement it added: "The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway."
