BCBAs Making the World a Better Place

Listen Later

This week on the pod, Alyssa and Courtney are joined by Katie Sears to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of ABA. The goal of this episode is to shed light on the true harm of ABA while also understanding how the field can move forward. Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) continues to be the most widely prescribed and accessible therapeutic approach for autistic children. Katie brings decades of knowledge to help us understand how the field can do better, what is holding it back, and what families should look for when exploring the use of ABA therapy in their child's treatment plan.

Highlights from this episode include:

  • Assent-based practices
  • Supporting a child’s voice and self-advocacy in therapy
  • Meeting children where they are
  • Levels of play
