Psalm 31 paints an honest picture of faith—confidence in God mixed with human uncertainty. The psalmist declares his trust in the Lord, yet openly wrestles with questions and fears about how everything will unfold. Throughout the chapter, he recommits himself to trusting God, reminding himself of God’s character, faithfulness, and strength. Then, in the final verse, he turns outward with a powerful encouragement: “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.” Courage is required precisely because we do not always know the outcome. Faith is choosing to move forward, to do the right thing, and to trust God even when the path is unclear. As we take that courageous step, God promises to strengthen our hearts—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually—so we can continue walking in hope.
