May 30, 2019Don't Drink The Kool Aid: Entitlement (3rd. In A 10 Part Series)The Kool Aid of entitlement. Sometimes we can do so much for our kids that when it's time to be responsible adults they either don't know how or begin to suffer from anxiety and depression. Today you have 40 year old men with a Masters Degree living with their mother playing video games. Listen in on this episode and discover the story of Thomas Gilbert Jr. A 34 year old man who was so entitled that when his father cut his allowance he shot him in the head. The mother's comments, " I knew he was nuts, but I didn't think he was this nuts." Can entitlement lead to mental illness? That's a good question. May 29, 2019Don't Drink The Kool Aid (2nd In A 10 Part Series) Several years ago I wrote an article called "Everybody Knows." This article described 10 things that everybody knows in education and in society, but for some reason won't talk about or even do anything about. When we start to believe certain theories and philosophies for no other reason than they seem like a good idea at the time we drank the Kool Aid and the long term consequences begin to become the norm and not the exception. In this episode we cover the Kool Aid of disrespect and how slowly over time we almost have been forced to put up with unruly kids which has done nothing more than to change our disrespectful children into disrespectful adults. Educators are beginning to lose ground and in reality can be blamed for the condition of schools which is unfair. We can't continue to be muzzled. The Kool Aid may look good at the time but the thirst for respect will quickly return. Episode 2 covers how we have bought into the idea that self control is an organic problem. Self control is taught and it needs to be dealt with like any other discipline problem; with consequences. The link below "Self Control There Is Nun Better" lends some clarification to my points in this episode. Self Control There Is Nun BetterEverybody Knows The Course...more16minPlay
