When it comes to laying things down, there are some tools that can help. Things like community, confession & counseling are our friends! We also have a foe who seeks to take us out. Being aware of the ways the enemy can creep in is an important part of releasing the things in our life that need to go.

Therapist and growth coach Keisha Polonio joins us for this conversation. Over the past 20 years, Keisha has been honored to serve vulnerable people whose voices often go unheard as a child welfare manager, advocate for sex-trafficked survivors, and nonprofit leader. As a therapist, she continues to bring healing to her community one therapy session at a time. Today, we get the gift of her expertise here on the podcast!

We all have that one thing that’s so hard to hand over to God entirely. We know His will and way are best, but our flesh fights against it. Sometimes surrender is a process. God’s will and way is the best thing for us; He writes the best stories when we lay down our desires at his feet. But what does that look like? When she’s not hanging out with middle schoolers, you can find her sipping a vanilla latte, playing pickleball, or spending time with the people she loves. She talks with Delaney and Mandie about what it has looked like for her to lay down her whole heart and trust God with the big stuff, including her singleness.

We all have things in our life that we know need to go, things that weigh us down and hold us back from receiving and living out God’s best. Yet even when we know something isn’t good for us, we can still struggle to release it. How do we experience God’s strength in our weakness? In this series, we’re talking with women of different ages and life stages about what it looks like to let go and let God. We’ll be sharing personal experiences, as well as discussing Scripture that points us to hope and truth. 

First up, we talk with Tracy Fruehauf. She’s the wife of a military man and mother to three teen/tween boys and a spunky little girl. We are wrapping up the You Can Rest series by walking through the You Can Rest share guide, a mini-Bible study on finding and experiencing rest. We brought back University of Nevada student, Summer Sollis to join us for this conversation.

We talk about rest in Jesus as a game changer! It's available to us at all times, even amid our work or in the middle of what feels like chaos; Jesus wants us to experience the rest and peace he offers.

Not only that, but God created a rhythm of rest for us to follow that includes work followed by physical rest. God called rest "holy." His command for rest is good for us!

This conversation through the share guide also brought us all to agree that naps are a good thing, Jesus even took one in the middle of a storm!

We are continuing our "You Can Rest" series with Shelbi Clark, a 27 yr old with a passion for Jesus. writing, and people. Her favorite pastime is stringing together words that remind herself and others of how human they are. She's an open book when it comes to her battle with mental health and brings us her testimony of finding rest and discovering her worth in Jesus versus her work.

In this episode, we also look at the story of Martha and Mary in Luke, Chapter 10. Martha was distracted with productivity like so often we can be. Mary had found rest and joy in the simple act of sitting at Jesus' feet, enjoying His presence. Pull up a seat at this table of brave conversation and ponder with us how we see ourselves in both of these women. Maybe you will find yourself in them, too, and come out with a deeper understanding of what experiencing rest and living it out means for you.

Our world seems to be moving faster and faster every day. As we seek to better understand the rest Jesus offers, we'll model and pass on the kind of life the generation coming after us will crave to live also!
