The other side of this idea that nothing stands in our way is that there are many parts of us that don't want us to know about them at all. Spiritually speaking, absolutely nothing stands in our way except what we do not yet know about ourselves. This means that we do not have to look anywhere else. The other side of this idea that nothing stands in our way is that there are many parts of us that don't want us to know about them at all. These parts have absolutely no interest in anything revelatory taking place.

It is impossible to ever come upon "bad" knowledge. There is no such thing. If that is the case, then why do we resist negative self-knowledge? Why do we resist discovering that we are selfish, self-centered, and full of fear? We resist seeing these presently unknown parts of ourselves because something lives inside of us that has convinced us that it is bad to see these negative qualities. If we are earnest in our wish to become better human beings, then it is mandatory for us to be able to look and see all of the characteristics -- negative and positive -- that live within us. If we want to know the truth, we have to know all of the truth, and not just the parts that please and console us. We have to know the whole of our nature.

There is no such thing as bad self-knowledge. Self-knowledge is the key to liberation. No other liberation exists without it. The refusal to receive and look at what we are is the same as refusing the liberation that comes when we simply agree to see ourselves as we are.

We are 93 million miles away from the sun. That is a distance that is almost impossible to comprehend! Everything that we see in nature -- the grass, flowers, trees, leaves, birds, clouds -- all of it is given life by something that is millions of miles away from us. Most of the time we do not make this connection in our hearts and minds, but this small impression gives us an indication of just how extraordinary and massive the energy must be that exists in the universe to create and sustain these beautiful forms. This physical universe that we see outside of ourselves is always trying to show us the sum of things, and it is an absolute miracle that we can become conscious of the fact that the sum of things also lives within us.

There is a definitive risk connected to opening oneself up to intimate relationships. Relationships introduce us to not only the light and bright parts of ourselves, but also to interior parts that are unknown and in the dark. Life serves to introduce us to ourselves. Life brings us lesson after lesson, but currently we are selective lesson choosers because we only want to see what we imagine...

Relationships introduce us to not only the light and bright parts of ourselves, but also to interior parts that are unknown and in the dark. Life serves to introduce us to ourselves. Life brings us lesson after lesson, but currently we are selective lesson choosers because we only want to see what we imagine will confirm the favorable pictures we have of ourselves.

Why do we run away from so many moments in our lives? The short answer is that we run because of the pain we encounter. We want to get as close as possible to what we like finding out about ourselves, but we have no interest in getting close to what seems to cause us pain. As we repeatedly resist painful moments, which are intended to reveal to us our nature, we run through a series of cycles in which we change everything around us, only to end up back where we started as the same human being still wrestling with the same problem.
