Why are men putting off routine checkups and delaying seeing a healthcare provider for symptoms of a health problem? In this episode, Dan called Crossover’s Dr. John Abano to the studio to find out. John is a huge advocate for improving access and awareness for men's health (from the US to Haiti to the Philippines)—which makes us a huge fan of John.
While erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, or decreased libido are something men don’t like to talk about, John says that these issues could be signs of more serious health problems that need to be caught sooner than later. Gentlemen (and ladies!), get the 411 on how men’s lifestyle choices and regular physician interaction can improve these common health concerns. Beyond just sexual performance issues, the bigger picture of physical (heart health, sleep apnea, diabetes) and mental health (depression) need treatment.
Stick to the end to hear John’s rapid fire responses on his current podcast binge (read: male contraceptives), why he is “stressing less” to improve his overall health (“easier said than done”), and his (not so guilty) guilty pleasure (plus, his plea to Apple for help).

In this Be Well episode, Dan gets Danielle, Crossover’s Health Coach Program Manager, to boil down the best strategy for getting people what they want in terms of eating healthy. Relationship with food—aka mindful eating (“sounds squishy”)—is at the core of making a sustainable change to eating in a certain way. So much more than losing a few pounds, it’s a multi-dimensional self-evaluation.….sleep, energy, exercise, finances (read: expensive diets!), and most of all “how it makes you feel”. She explains how a health coach dives into all of this with expertise as a co-pilot with the member as the driver. Spoiler Alert: They won’t just tell you what to do because that transfers your responsibility to them.
Danielle also shares how her own journey has shaped her career path and provides some tactics to help people with mindful eating. Stick to the end to hear what's on Danielle's podcast queue, reading list, and what she's doing to feel her best.

We are celebrating Pride, so Dan called on Crossover clinical psychologist Dr. Matthew Chester to have a conversation on LGBT+ health, disparities, and his own personal experiences. Growing up as a gay man in the South, Matt now advocates for the LGBT+ community, with access to health and wellness as one of his clinical specialties and practice.
With staggering statistics of the queer population experiencing discrimination in the healthcare system, hear how Matt dedicates his work to helping those who have experienced adversity not only cope, but thrive. And, hear how Dan gets a lesson on when to use what terms (sexuality orientation vs. gender identity)—for those of us who are not LGBT+.
Stick to the end to find out Matt’s ironic choice of podcasts and how his guilty pleasure stays true to his Texas roots.

Running may have gotten an unfair bad rap because it has been used as a “form of punishment” for fitness or sport and “exists as a necessary evil.” So, Dan and Scott called upon Matt DeBole, running coach, physical therapist, and Crossover’s Physical Medicine Program Manager, to share some of his secrets.
Matt exposes the most critical (and neglected) component of running when it comes to preventing injuries...hint: it’s not your fancy shoes or stretching. Elite runners have a personalized structure for their training—they limit themselves when their body needs it—and beginners should follow that lead even though it’s sometimes hard to check your ego and start slow (or not keep up with the neighborhood running club). Matt explains that creating a program that helps you build a routine and start gradually is the best way to get started and to make running feel more enjoyable. Running “nerds” will love hanging with Matt on this podcast too.
Stick around to the end to hear his music of choice on his runs, and how a single “defining moment” question started Matt on his path to physical therapy.

In our very first episode, Dan brings in Scott Shreeve who is “super stoked” to kick off Crossover’s new podcast series, Be Well. As the founder and CEO of Crossover, it has been ten years in the making, doing the hard work, to grow then pivot from a new kind of medical company that delivers care differently, to a fully committed lifestyle company that you join to live your best life. At the end of the day, your body is the one vehicle you have. It’s up to you to take care of it, to get the most out of it, and find true enjoyment. Investing in your health is a game-changer.
Stick to the end to hear Scott’s own personal fitness, restorative (“meditation is hard, dude!”), and nutritional practices, as well as his somewhat surprising reading and podcast genres of choice.
