Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder

A vow is a statement of dedicated directional intent.  Our modern world has shied away from them, for the most part.

Watch 7 minutes as we hear about a particular vow to a peculiar God. Jacob pledges with his pause, his finances, his geography, and with his long-term chronology. There is something in this story worth listening to.

Jacob sees that there is a "stairway to heaven".  God is active.  His ministers are here. He sees. He cares. He intervenes.  I am with you and I will keep you wherever you go.

Jacob, aka "the Deceiver" has himself been deceived.  He somehow has gone through his blessed life thinking God was good for others, but perhaps not even REAL.  Then something big happens and his lightbulb goes on: God is real. He is here. I am in his debt. I owe him something.

I'll bet your family has some trouble as you read this.  You might be comforted by today's comparison.  The big question is: how does a family respond in difficult circumstances? God is calling to all of us...especially in the difficulties.

Jacob is a lying, scheming deceiver guilty of elder-abuse. We can learn something from him. He gets one thing right: he VALUES the blessing of his spiritual heritage.

It is great to be in the family of God and receive His favor and attention.  Now we must ask: what is he going to do with it? 7 minutes watch.

Sometimes the Bible serves to offer great examples of being a poor example.  We'd all agree that father, grandfathers, mothers and grandmothers should bless the generations that follow them.  We'll see today that Abraham's family doesn't do such a good job of this.

The next-door neighbor of Isaac notices that, "the Lord has been with you" and that "You are now the blessed of the Lord." Good for him in the noticing. Then he wants to make a covenant that associates his people to be at peace with God's people. Today, be challenged: notice the people of God. Or, portray what it is like to have a relationship with God.

God literally and figuratively MAKES ROOM for a guy names Isaac. Big Deal. What I want to know is, can God MAKE ROOM FOR ME? Is this something that is offered and even available? Does this crazy Old Testament story make a difference?
