Artistic medium: Sculpture, Paintings

Ceramics: In 2016 I began to work with clay, and taking my work into three dimensional sculptural forms feels like a natural progression. It is important to me to use New Zealand clay for my work, which I fire in my electric kiln in the studio or outside in the Raku gas kiln or drum fire. I enjoy natural effects, movement, and asymmetry. I'm not concerned with perfection: allowing the fire to leave its own markings brings an element of surprise to the piece. Natural pigments such as oxides, iron, and copper interest me. Glaze work is also something I enjoy with the volcanic effects that come from layering reactive glazes.

Painting: This year I’m working on a series of textured, almost sculptural forms playing with light and shadow. I welcome visitors to my studio, and enjoying making one-off personal works, accepting several commissions a year.

Exhibitions in 2018 included the Odlin Gallery, the Paekākāriki Art Show, the Rick Rudd Ceramic Art Awards, and the Kāpiti Arts Trail.
