- Needing to keep Mal at a distance, and how being confronted with her feelings hit
- Detachment as part of companion training
- Not ready to give everything up, like Simon, or just a need to be independent/afraid of what a family can be?
- Great acting in how she portrays the hurt she feels
- Inara caused her own pain, by pushing Mal away
- Some of her relationship interactions didn't have the leadup
- Is this the reason for Inara leaving, or a catalyst for her own story arc to take off
- Is Inara running from something?
Mal:
- Always professional and this lets Inara keep him at arms reach
- Finally being blunt about the relationship with Inara
- Mal likely did not know Inara had feelings for him

- It is a great moment for the Jayne and the crew with the lack of teasing about the hat
- We actually see his motivations, and how it was expressed leading up to this
- Likely shows what Mal sees in Jayne
River:
- Leaning more to hyperaware
Inara:
- Companion Grief Counseling
- She is the mother of the crew, and this shows

- Starting to see a little more about his background by his identification of the villain of the week
- There is a comic that explains his story
