Beatnik Turtle's Song of the Day episodes

  • When It Turned Cold
Tom wrote a number of songs about a year ago that inevitably had an autumn flavor to them. This is the first one, with more to come before the year is done.

  • Traffic Cones
Let's face it, there needs to be a song about Traffic Cones. This is that song. Find out more about them at The Traffic Cone Preservation Society. Though our song says traffic cones don't make good pets, this site disagrees.

  • What A Horrible Thing To Say
Dugan O'Keene came in with this fun one based on some lyrics Matt had. Sometimes it's a challenge to write a melody to a structured set of lyrics, but not for Dugan. "What A Horrible Thing To Say" also has the distinction of being the first song of the day to be tagged for having "explicit lyrics" thanks to one sh*tty little word.

  • Daylight Savings Time Is Gone Again
While Jason loves the start of daylight savings time (more light for all), Tom prefers the end of it. In fact, Tom loves this particular weekend (because of that extra hour) so much he not only revamped this song, he wrote another one for tomorrow: "The Longest Day (For Joe)."

  • Grandpa's Chair
Obviously, we believe at in sharing music here at TheSongOfTheDay. When going through our archives, we found this song dating back to 1998. It's notable - to us at least - for being the first song we were able to share via the internet. We had just gotten our site www.beatnikturtle.com up and running (it was a page) and we posted this song to download as a WAV since mp3s weren't as prevalant then. Of course, broadband didn't really exist to the extent it does now either and it took forever for anyone to download!

  • Sensitive Guy
A blast from Beatnik Turtle's archives. This song features the most sensitive of saxophones: the soprano "Kenny G" sax.

  • Kim Bailed
Yet another of those songs that has it's genesis in something said rather off-handedly only to be followed by the phrase, "Hey, that would make a great song!" After picking up Tom Roper and Tom Beeyachski to head to the studio to record, Jason asked Tom B. if his wife Kim was meeting up with them later. Tom replied, "No, Kim bailed." And later that day the three of them wrote this song.

  • Don't You Give Up (You Can Do It)
This subtle song about encouraging someone with "dreams to destroy the earth" is a remix of the original from our Cheapass Album - an entire album of songs based or inspired by the quirky games of Seattle's Cheapass Games.
Other songs from The Cheapass Album have made TheSongOfTheDay in one form or another (mostly the original demos): Were All These Beer Cans Here Last Night? , Cube Farm, and Nothing Beats Rock.
Of course, The Cheapass Album is available at iTunes, too!
