Nicole Chu from the University of Ottawa talks to Dr. Heather Sheardown, Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Ophthalmic Biomaterials and a Professor of Chemical Engineering at McMaster University. Her research focuses on developing new polymeric materials and drug delivery systems for all areas of the eye to combat ocular disease and blindness. In this interview, Dr. Sheardown speaks on the challenges when commercializing academic technologies, her experience developing academic-industry collaborations with major companies like Ripple Therapeutics and EyeGate, as well as the C20/20 initiative she is leading, established with the 20/20 NSERC Ophthalmic Materials Network.
