The cross of Jesus is both beautiful and brutal.  Shawna and Perry talk about Jesus experiencing the crushing weight of God’s justice on the cross so that we can experience the smiling face of the Father forever.  Then, by one sacrifice Jesus took away all our sins, past, present, and future!  Also, as Jesus suffered in agony, he could have turned inward and ignored those around him.  Instead, he loved, he forgave.  His love in us will empower us to do the same.  And finally, Jesus, the River of Life, experienced thirst on the cross, God’s justice on the cross, so that we can drink from the river that flows from his wounded side.  He experienced cosmic thirst so that ours could be quenched forever!
