It’s normal to crave the comforts of home when we’re traveling somewhere for the first time (or the umpteenth time, for that matter!). But should we indulge those desires?
Today, I explain why caving into our desire for the familiar can be a good thing, especially if it keeps us on track to keep learning and growing.
Mead, music, and merriment
Are you curious about the palace outside of London referenced in this episode? It’s called Hatfield House, and you might recognize it from a number of feature films (most recently The Favourite). The medieval-style banquet I attended many years ago was in the banqueting hall of the Old Palace of Hatfield.
From what I can tell, the hall is (sadly) no longer hosting touristy banquets on a regular basis, I’m guessing because there’s a lot more money to be made from hosting weddings and corporate functions there.
But if you want to experience something similar to what I describe, there are plenty of other opportunities throughout the U.K, such as this, this, and (holy tourist trap, Batman!) this.
