  • Nawal Sari - Modest Fashion Influencer
The $12.95 brow product that this beauty influencer swears by to lift and set...
Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.
I'm your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart. And this is season four!
Each episode, I sit down with a guest and ask them about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they'd take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off too.
Maybe it's the beauty product that defined their teens, the one they grew up watching their mum or grandma use, or the perfume that instantly sparks a memory of a special place or person.
Along the way we find out more about their life, career and the people and events that have shaped them into who they are today.
Today, my guest is Nawal Sari, Modest Fashion and beauty influencer and content creator. She's actually the youngest Beauty Island guest I've had to date, just 21, but she's already built herself a powerful platform, covering beauty, fashion and faith for over 120,000 Instagram followers and creating content for Nike and The Iconic.
We talked about becoming a modest fashion influencer, tokenism versus diversity in fashion and beauty media, grappling with identity and her muslim faith, and walking in The Iconic Runway with her idol and muslim model Halima Aden.
Plus, she shares the $12.95 brow gel she swears by and the MAC lip colour better than velvet teddy.
She was insightful, inspiring and very funny.

  • Annie Nolan (Uncanny Annie) - Blogger, Podcast Host, Entertainer FINALE
Hello and welcome to A Christmas Binge, your favourite festive podcast.
Well, we've done it. Almost. It's Christmas Eve with Santa due to do his rounds this evening.
My name is Brittany Stewart, I'm a Melbourne-based journalist, host of another podcast, Beauty Island (https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/beauty-island/id1429274511) and an absolute Christmas obsessive. When I couldn't find a festive podcast to listen to last year, I was frustrated. So this year I made the decision to make it myself!
A Christmas Binge is all about celebrating the spirit of the season by chatting to interesting people to find out how they celebrate. Over the past few weeks, I've sat down with guests to ask them about their favourite Christmas films and music, the food that fills their Christmas table in terms of what goes on the dinner table and of course, their unique Christmas traditions.
This week, my guest is We Can Do Better podcast co-host, entertainer, activist and owner of the best winged liner I've ever seen, Annie Nolan. Oh, and you might also have heard of her husband, former AFL player Liam Picken.
Bright, bubbly and brilliantly candid, Annie welcomed me into her home to chat all things festive. This really was such a multifaceted chat about the highs and lows of Christmas, so I thought it was the perfect Christmas Eve listen. We talked about the mental load women carry at Christmas, the fantastic reason she stopped giving Santa all the credit for presents, and shared the most beautiful Christmas story about her brother, who has passed away.
A little content warning: We do discuss some emotional topics including the loss of loved ones in this episode. (But there's also talk of a litter of kittens climbing a Christmas tree and getting the Santa mall photo with rats, so it's upbeat too, promise.)
I also share my infamous Christmas quiz if you're looking for a fun festive activity to do with the fam.
I also speak to social worker Leanne, for a different perspective on the festive season and encourage you to donate to the hero firefighters currently battling bushfires around the country.

Hello and welcome to A Christmas Binge, your new favourite Christmas listening tradition.
The mince pies have been in the supermarket since October, maybe you've been Christmas shopping since August, but it's we're just over a week until Christmas!
My name is Brittany Stewart, I'm a Melbourne-based journalist, host of another podcast, Beauty Island, and an absolute Christmas obsessive. Last year, as a podcast fanatic, I desperately wanted to find something festive to add to my podcast rotation in December to get me in the mood. I couldn't find anything, so this year I made the decision to make it myself. Christmas goodwill or purely selfish, you decide.
A Christmas Binge is all about celebrating the spirit of the season by chatting to interesting people to find out how they celebrate. Each episode in the lead up to Christmas, I sit down with someone and ask them about their favourite Christmas films and music, the food that fills their Christmas table in terms of what goes on the dinner table and of course, their unique Christmas traditions.
This week, my guest is beauty writer and host of The Glow Journal podcast, Gemma Watts. She has also been a guest on my beauty podcast Beauty Island way back in the first season, so if you're a fan - and I've no doubt you will be after this if you aren't already - I highly recommend going back and listening to that. Just search 'Beauty Island' on Apple Podcasts or Spotify and I'll link in the shownotes too.
Smart, talented, and with the greatest and driest sense of humour, Gemma is a breath of fresh air in the beauty space with her no BS and beautifully shot beauty content. We talked about why the Muppet's Christmas Carol is the greatest xmas film of all time, what's so special about scalloped potatoes, The Princess Switch mistake you need to watch to spot and she shares her infamous Carols by Candlelight drinking game that went semi-viral. You're welcome.
Oh, and if you're still needing to get any last-minute gifts for the beauty lovers in your life, we have just the recommendation.

Hello and welcome to A Christmas Binge, your new favourite Christmas listening tradition.

This week, I'm joined by two guests. If you're a podcast fan, you likely already know them. Today I'm celebrating Christmas with Michelle Andrews and Zara McDonald of the insanely popular Shameless podcast. Pop Culture journalists, hosts and founders of Shameless Media, they've built a media empire that counts three generations among its loyal fans. Their flagship podcast Shameless has been downloaded more than six million times. And they also just so happen to be my former colleagues at Mamamia.
I headed to Shameless HQ, donned festive hats and chatted to the pair about the Aussie Christmas TV show they're obsessed with, our theory on why there are so few new good Christmas movies, a rant about Michael Buble and a controversial opinion on Christmas cake.

Welcome to A Christmas Binge, your new favourite Christmas listening tradition.
Last year, as a podcast fanatic, I desperately wanted to find something festive to add to my podcast rotation in December to get me in the mood. (Because playing Michale Buble's Christmas album on repeat during the day just wasn't enough). I couldn't find anything, so this year I made the decision to make it myself. A Christmas Binge is all about celebrating the spirit of the season by chatting to interesting people to find out how they celebrate. Each episode, I'll sit down with someone and ask them about their Christmas Binges - the show or film they watch religiously to get them in the festive mood, their other Christmas Binge in terms of what goes on the dinner table come Christmas Day and they eat, and of course, their unique Christmas traditions.
Episodes will drop each week in the lead up to Christmas to get you in the mood. We'll talk Christmas films and TV specials, the foods we love and love to hate, memories of Christmas past and nosey in on their sometimes wonderful and often wacky Christmas traditions.
Whether you're obsessed with Christmas as me, or you couldn't care less, I hope you'll join me and my guests as we reminisce and discuss and maybe get into a slightly heated argument about the best Christmas film of all time - (yes, the right answer is The Holiday).

Hello and welcome to the first episode of A Christmas Binge, your new favourite Christmas listening tradition.
The mince pies have been in the supermarket since October, maybe you've been Christmas shopping since August, but it's officially December so the approved Christmas countdown can begin.

This week, I'm celebrating with Christmas with Monique Bowley. Where to begin with her?
She makes podcasts at the ABC, established the Mamamia Podcast Network, was the founding president of the Adelaide Branch of the South Australian Country Women's Association, created a fundraising op-shop, a travelling vintage clothing store raising money for the homeless and disadvantaged in Adelaide, is a former professional basketball player having played for Australia AND was a finalist in the first season of The Great Australian Bake Off. (And she'll hate me for saying all that because she is also one of the most modest people I've ever met.)
She cooked me dinner, we ate homemade brownies, and then she turned her living room upside down into a makeshift podcast studio so we could talk all things festive. She shared the revelation of how Adelaide celebrates Christmas including a special festive parade, the rather vicious Kris Kringle her family does every year, her signature trifle recipe, and the Christmas tree conundrum she's facing after falling in love with a $1200 Christmas tree in Vogue.
Now just a word for this episode and the whole season; I am so privileged to have had family and Christmas experiences that make it a time of year that I love. I know for many people, for many different reasons, find Christmas a very difficult period. So I just wanted to flag that this podcast largely deals with the positive and often indulgent side of Christmas, and we're very lucky to have the privilege and freedom to talk about things like the food we're eating and the way we celebrate and gifts and family. If it's a topic you find hard, this might not be the podcast for you right now.
But if that is you, I would really love to hear your thoughts and feelings about Christmas if you're open to sharing for a special little episode later in the month - get in touch and email me at [email protected] or send me a DM on Instagram @AChristmasBinge. I'll also be sharing some ways you can give back this Christmas so listen out in each episode for that.

  • Kirsten Carriol - Founder and CEO, Lanolips
What does it really take to be successful in business? And what's the grown-up musky perfume this beauty expert wants her kids to remember her by?
Hello and welcome back to Beauty Island, the beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.
I'm your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart.
If you've listened since the beginning or to a few episodes of Beauty Island, you'll have noticed that certain products get mentioned multiple times by different people. And there's one product that has been selected the most as people's desert island essential; Lanolips. A lanolin-based multipurpose ointment from a South Australian brand that can be used for just about anything you can think of.
So it is my absolute pleasure to have founder of Lano, Kirsten Carriol, as this week's beauty Island guest. I was hoping to sit down in Sydney with Kirsten in person but being in Melbourne makes it a little difficult and I really wanted to bring you this chat as soon as possible so I was very lucky to get her early one morning over the phone - and I have to say this is possibly one of my favourite interviews I've done this year. I've listened to it a few times now during the editing process and each time I hear a new nugget of gold; so I hope you feel the same.
Before she became the founder and CEO of an internally beloved beauty brand stocked by pretty much by the biggest beauty retailers around the world including Mecca, Priceline, Sephora and Net-A-Porter, Kirsten worked in beauty PR, launching the likes of Laura Mercier and St Tropez into Australia.
That foundation, plus grandparents who were farmers and parents who are scientists in hindsight seems like the perfect formula for what she would go on to do; Turning the uncool ingredient of Lano into a highly successful beauty business.
We talked about the risk of keeping a product so simple yet effective, the foundation and concealer combo she swears by to hide dark circles, the moment she discovered the grown up version of her musky teenage The Body Shop scent, and what she thinks of the likes of Drew Barrymore, Kim Kardashian, Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Chelsea Handler loving her products
Playful chat about beauty but also was very candid about the relentless pace of running a successful business and the truth about that elusive work/life/balance. We spoke about the underrated value of kindness in business which was something that was shining from Kirsten even over the phone. So generous with her time and wisdom. I hope you enjoy our chat.
As always, If you enjoy listening to Beauty island, please subscribe, and rate and review on Apple Podcasts. If you're on instagram, take a screenshot and share it on your stories so I can see where you're listening from - just tag me at @beautyislandpodcast.

Today's my guest is Alexis Teasdale, former Beauty Director of Cosmopolitan, Editor of Cosmo Bride and founder of The Festive Co, a styling service, party and all-round bonanza source of inspiration. This intro has actually taken me far longer than I should have because I got lost down the rabbit-hole of events they've done. May I recommend you start with Lex's own wedding.
This episode was special because if you've listened to Beauty Island before, you might have heard her name already, mentioned by previous guest Amy Starr as they are former colleagues and best friends. It was really a demonstration of connection and proof that you should be nice to everyone you cross paths with, as we also link back to other former BI guests including Sarah Tarca and Lisa Patulny. So if you are wanting to listen to more episodes after this one, I highly recommend those.
Anyway, we talk about how a book-obsessed girl from Adelaide landed at some of Australia's most iconic mags including Dolly, Cosmopolitan and Instyle, going into labour while getting eyelash extensions, some brilliant party tips and the dry shampoo as a mum of three she swears by.
