Becky explains the difference between a beauty bar and cleansing bar soap. She explains what saponification is. A lot of people ask if you can use a beauty bar for making home made laundry soap. The answer is no. A beauty bar is a superfat recipe, that means there is extra oil left over in the bar to nourish your skin when you use it. To make home made laundry soap you need to use a cleansing bar which is a soap recipe that is perfectly even so when it saponifies there is no extra oil left over, a cleansing bar is more "dry".

This is one of my favorite soap recipes. Olive oil used to be my favorite but now this coconut oil soap recipe is my favorite because it’s a beauty bar that leaves your skin so smooth and very moisturized.

My recipe is 5% superfat, that means this is a beauty bar that will moisturize your skin and not dry you out.

You will need:

54 ounces of coconut oil

9.7 ounces of lye

24.25 ounces of distilled water

Becky starts by answering some questions about homemade liquid laundry detergent. Then she shows you how to make it. First you start by grating the whole bar of zote into the 5 gallon bucket. Then you add 2 gallons of hot water and stir until the zote shavings dissolve. Then you add 3 more gallons of hot water to the bucket. Put the lid on and wait 24 hours.

This makes a double strength soap, so before you use it, fill your gallon jug half way with water then fill the other half with your liquid laundry detergent. Give it a shake and it's ready to use.

Becky answers a question from Reva about what's the best bedding for baby chicks. Becky talks about hay, newspaper, and wood shavings or wood chips. She talks about the good and bad about each one and tells you what she chooses to use for chicken bedding.

For dinner I have curried rice, steamed broccoli, and some fish. Wild caught salmon and/or some flounder.
