  • Become a Midnight Builder: Do Your Work When No One is Watching on You

We are working in a very fluid global business environment. Many of us may have the self-awareness that the knowledge we have learnt in school and the experience we have earned in the first half of our career life may not be sufficient to carry on in the remaining part of our career. We may struggle that we don’t have enough time to learn something new. Or we may struggle that the learning journey is very difficult, which you go two steps forward and one step backwards.

Today, we will discuss an important element of lifelong learning – persistency

There are five things you should not do if you are committed to persistent lifelong learning.

  • Become a Good Servant of Time: Multiply Learning Outcomes in Scarcity of Time

We are all granted for a fixed amount of time. Time does not belong to us. We don’t own our time. If we don’t use our time wisely, it will pass away.

Everyone has only 24 hours a day. Creating extra time is impossible. But if you can apply the four principles discussed in the last episode, you can create extra moments that can be allocated for your lifelong learning.

In today's episode, we will shift our focus. Instead of creating extra moments with a fixed amount of time every day, we will discuss how to enhance the quality of those moments that we allocated for lifelong learning.

  • Become a Veteran: Turn Experience into Lifelong Strength Through Gritty Learning

Learning Nomad is an idea to empower us to survive and thrive in the ever-changing workplace impacted by AI. It is a commitment to lifelong learning to build our self-awareness of the knowledge gap, self-orientation of growth direction and self-pacing learning habits in a fast-changing context.

To embrace lifelong learning, we have to bust the following misbelief.

    • We are too old. Why do we have to learn, again?
    • We're constantly busy. How can we make extra time for learning in our daily routines?
    • We will no longer get promoted or salary rise even if I earn one more certificate or degree. What is the ROI of learning?

In this episode, we are going to answer these three questions.

  • Become a Ghostwriter: Rent Your Pen to Convey Uncomfortable Messages That Make a Difference*

*The name and some content of this episode are inspired by the book The Art and Business of Ghost-writing, written by Nicolas Cole.

Our daily work and life. We may have occasions when we have to deliver a message that does not come from you and is uncomfortable to someone else. But we have the responsibility to tell the brutal facts or give a wake-up call. If you are a manager, you may need to flag the performance issue to your sub-ordinate. If you are a client relationship manager, you may have to pass the candidate feedback from an unsatisfied client to your team. If you are a parent, you may have some hard lessons to teach and to preach to your children about their behavioural issues reported from the school. Or you need to cancel your family vacation plan due to ad-hoc financial constrain.

No matter a warning to flag, candid feedback to give, a lesson to teach, or bad news to announce, most people will choose either of these two attitudes:

"I feel very difficult and embarrassed to convey the message and choose not to tell the truth."

    Or

"I have to be very honest with you and tell you the truth."

From a design thinker’s point of view, we do not focus on how the words are told. We care about how the message is being conceived by people.

In this episode, we will use the Ghostwriter persona to discuss the design thinkers’ mindset that can deliver a clear, differentiable, valuable and impactful message.

  • Become a Quilter: Weave Your Fragmented Stories to Create Meaningful Patterns.

You may have fragmented stories when you look back on your past. These stories provide clues that may help you to reinvent your journey and suggest the next step forward.

Like a Quilter, you can sew fragmented ideas into meaningful patterns. The pattern tells the stories of the quilter, about the self-discovery journey, about freedom, and about the community they serve. If you start to look into your stories, you can discover something hidden or forgotten, but something you can reinvent to become something you are good at, your skills, something you can apply in your arena and give new meanings to your neighbour.

In this episode, we will use a quilter metaphor to discuss how we can connect the dots in our fragmented stories in the past by finding meaning patterns within.

  • Become a Life Curator: Reframe Your Past to Retell Your Story.

In this episode, we will explore how to reframe what had happened to us and turn it into a meaningful story. This story is not a nostalgic reminiscent. A meaningful story can connect our past and make sense of what we doing now. Most importantly, the story should open a path for us to take more steps toward a desirable future that we are pursuing.

Like a curator, we can manage the meaningful collection of our memories and organise them in a way to convey a coherent theme that enhances the understanding of who we are and who we want to be through Design Thinking.

  • Become an Archer: How to Aim at Different Rings of People Relationships

We have different people relationships to manage. These relationships are like concentric rings, like the target of an archer.

Archers cannot choose the battlefield. Archers stand with their legs firmly planted on the ground to have a solid base for shooting. But the master of archery tells us that a great archer cannot always choose the battlefield.

Inspired by the book The Archer, written by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. The book tells a story about a young man seeking wisdom from an elder, who is a master of archery. There are many insights we can learn to build the rings of relationships from Design Thinking perspective.

In this episode, we will use an archer metaphor to discuss how we should handle the segmented rings of human relationships by Design Thinking.
