  • Become a Tightrope Walker: Balance Yourself When You Are Making Decisions Alone Up High

Deciding to make a change in midlife is stressful. You want to talk to a lot of people to find the answer. You want a mentor to tell you what to do next. But it never happens. When deciding to change, you are alone. You have to make your decision alone.

In this episode, we will use the metaphor of a tightrope walker to see how we should make our go-or-not-go decision alone. Each step of a tightrope walker is a decision to make. There is very little tolerance for a wrong decision whether to stay where you are or move one step forward

  • Become a Courageous Firefighter: Be Patient and Prepared for Calling to Solve Complex Problems.

Design Thinkers bear the doer mindset. Design thinkers drive a change by action rather than dreaming or talking about it. However, excessive or premature action may result in undesirable situations, cause confusion, or hurt the people that you care about.

Firefighters perform their duties in life-and-death situations. If we examine carefully, we may find some similarities between the situation firefighters have to face and the problems design thinkers have to solve.

What insight we can get from firefighters when tackling complex problems?

By wearing a Firefighter persona when you take any immediate action or pursue any plans, you can gain a different level of wisdom as a design thinker.

  • Become Who You Are: The Journey to Discover Who You Are to Become Who You Want to be

“Some people never become who they are; they stop trusting in themselves; they conform to the tastes of others, and they end up wearing a mask that hides their true nature.”

    ― Robert Greene

Becoming great means finding the seed of greatness in your heart and making it grow. Everyone is gifted, but gifted differently.

Ancient Greek poet Pindar mentioned, “Become who you are by learning who you are.” Becoming who you are is an action to pursue something that you are good at and turn it into a great thing. But the first step is about “learning who you are”

In this episode, we ask two important questions:

    1.       Why does “becoming who you are” is important to you?

    2.       How can you “learn who you are” by design thinking?

  • Become a Hedgehog and a Fox (Part Two): The Design Thinking in Becoming Great

“The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing.”
    ― Isaiah Berlin.

Jim Collins, in his book Good to Great, quoted the story of “The Hedgehog and the Fox” from Isaiah Berlin’s essay. Jim said that we have to understand what our competence could become the best in the world, like a hedgehog. This is Jim’s “Hedgehog Concept”.

Fox can be good at many things. But Hedgehog is great at one thing. From Good to Great, Jim describes a transformation, which transforms us from a fox to a hedgehog. How does it relate to us as Design Thinkers?

We continue the insights from the story of “The Hedgehog and the Fox” in this episode.

Design thinking is a journey of self-discovery, repeated action, evaluation of actions, and transformation of actions to a bigger purpose. Listen to the episode to start becoming great today.
