Should you get a nutrition certification as a trainer?
On this week's Becoming the Ultimate Coach, the Jock (Scott Schutte) and the Doc (Dr. Janine Stichter) break down why spending money on a certification that covers just nutrition is helpful but incomplete.
Is nutrition a vital component that needs to be addressed with clients?
Of course but... Is it the one thing keeping all clients from their goals? Probably not.
There is so much more to health and fitness than just tough workouts and learning about nutrition. For clients to truly change their behaviors they need customized, goal-oriented steps to replace unhealthy behaviors with healthier ones, or else they will fall right back into their old routines.
With Weight Loss Behavior Coaching, we give strategies to improve clients' nutrition but also spend time impacting stress management, happiness, and other facets of health and fitness that are essential for clients to incorporate their goals into their daily lives.
This week's Becoming the Ultimate Coach covers why your clients need more than just training.
It is why we created the Weight Loss Behavior Coaching course. Most clients will not see the results they desire with training alone. That is where Weight Loss Behavior Coaching sessions come in.
During these short sessions, we can address the behaviors our clients are in engaged in outside the gym that affects their results. These sessions will get your clients better results, make you more money and make you the ultimate fitness professional.
It is no secret that clients, especially early on, have a lot of questions.
In most cases, to answer those questions as their coach we have to ask even more questions.
On this week's episode of Becoming the Ultimate Coach, the Jock (Scott Schutte) and the Doc (Dr. Janine Stichter) break down how to dig a little deeper and be able to answer whatever questions your clients have for you.
As with most things in health and fitness, it is all dependent on the clients' goals. For example, if a client asks how far/often should they run, you should first ask them, if they enjoy running.
What goal will running help them accomplish? Is it a short term or long term goals? For some people, running is a huge stress reliever and adds movement to their day.
For others, it hurts their joints to the point where it is disrupting their other training. The key to being able to answer any question your clients bring you is knowing your clients and what each of their individual goals are.
Do you struggle with getting your clients' to consistently follow your advice?
We get it, it can be frustrating if week after week your client comes back having done little to none of the things you've recommended for them.
On this week's Becoming the Ultimate Coach, the Jock (Scott Schutte) and the Doc (Dr. Janine Stichter) break down the steps you need to get even your most stubborn clients to begin listening to your recommendations and start making progress on their health and fitness goals.
Celebrating small wins, remembering the Rule of 3, and checking in with clients between sessions are three easy ways to help you get those clients to start making progress and, in turn, make you the ultimate fitness coach.
In this week's Becoming the Ultimate Coach, the Jock (Scott Schutte) and the Doc (Dr. Janine Stichter) break down why going beyond just strength, stamina and flexibility is so important.
For the majority of personal training clients, just impacting strength, stamina, and flexibility won't get them the results they want and can lead them to train elsewhere. If a client isn't managing their stress, monitoring nutrition and activity, results become much more difficult to achieve and can be frustrating.
Especially if food and sedentary behavior are part of their current stress management. With Weight Loss Behavior Coaching, you will learn to impact 10 facets of health and fitness, including stress management, happiness, relationships as well as strength, stamina while they are in the gym.

On this week's Becoming the Ultimate Coach, the Jock (Scott Schutte) and the Doc (Dr. Janine Stichter) break down "This, Not That" for your clients.
As with all behaviors, to successfully create a healthier habit we must identify the root cause of the unhealthy behaviors. Because the root cause is individual to the person, clients will react differently to a set of garden variety replacement behaviors they are offered. A replacement that works well for one client won't always work for another.
Essentially, in order to create healthier replacement behaviors for your clients, you must know your clients' unhealthy habits, the root cause of those habits, and then you will be able to choose a healthier replacement that will be easy to incorporate and effective at helping them reach their goals.
This week's Becoming the Ultimate Coach, the Jock (Scott Schutte) and the Doc (Dr. Janine Stichter break down the importance of progress monitoring. You can't be sure you are helping your clients get the results they want if you aren't regularly monitoring their results.
Whether that be through traditional methods like the scale for weight loss, calipers or a body scanner for fat loss or as an HBI certified Weight Loss Behavior Coach, you could measure their results using our Healthy Behavior Assessment.
This assessment takes clients around 5 minutes to complete and gives you an idea not only where they are improving or plateauing but also where improvement will make the most difference for that client.
No matter what method you choose, if you want to Become the Ultimate Fitness Coach, you have to regularly progress monitor for change with your clients.
