Welcome to episode 8 of Bede & Steve Vs. Camp Crystal Lake. The official spin-off podcast to Bede Vs. The Living Dead, where your hosts Bede Jermyn & Steven T. Boltz explore the classic slasher franchise Friday The 13th, along with its rip-offs, fan films, unproduced scripts, TV shows, comic books and so much more.
While the previous entry in the Friday The 13th series Part VII: The New Blood may have had a negative reviews and a mixed reception from fans, it's moderate success at the box office still proved that there was still more life in the franchise. Since the series had been experimenting with its approach to sequels at this point, Paramount Studios decided to finally take Jason Voorhees out of Crystal Lake and into the big city with its biggest budgeted entry yet: the 1989 sequel Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, which was the feature debut of its writer/director Rob Hedden (who also work on the spin-off TV show Friday The 13th: The Series).
Joining your hosts to discuss this 8th entry are first-time guests Craig Martin (who teaches film theory at Swineburne University) and
Marcus Wilturner (writer/contributor for
The Super Network). Highlights in this episode include Craig & Marcus discussing the first
Friday The 13th film that they both saw, wondering if
Jason Takes Manhattan is actually better than its reputation, tryinging to figure out the many plot-holes in the story, diving into the behind-the-scenes problems, appreciating Rob Hedden's directorial style, is Jason Voorhees actually a teleporter and so much more.
