Welcome to episode 5 of Bede & Steve Vs. Camp Crystal Lake. The official spin-off podcast to Bede Vs. The Living Dead, where your hosts Bede Jermyn & Steven T. Boltz explore the classic slasher franchise Friday The 13th, along with its rip-offs, fan films, unproduced scripts, TV shows, comic books and so much more.
As we have seen with many franchises, any entry that has the subtitle of The Final Chapter, you can absolutely guarantee that it definitely won't be. Friday The 13th was definitely no exception. After the success of the fouth entry, Paramount Studios decided to continue the series and take it into a new direction without its main antagonist Jason Voorhees. The end result is the film that your hosts Bede & Steven diving into this episode: the infamous 1985 entry Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning, which was co-written & directed by exploitation filmmaker Danny Steinmann (The Unseen, Savage Streets).
Joining your hosts to discuss this polarising fifth instalment are first-time guests filmmaker Addison Heath (co-director of the films The Viper's Hex and My Cherry Pie), Kevin Nez (co-host of The MAC-NEZ Podcast, The E Socitey Podcast) and Lindsay Wilkins (the host of Schlock & Awe). Highlights in this episode include both Addison, Nez & Lindsay telling the hosts how they were introduced to the Friday The 13th franchise, debate whether Part V is better than the negative reputation has recieved, Steve explains why he hates this film with a passion, appreciating how sleazy and exploitative this entry is, the curious case of the villain Roy, discuss John Sheperd's performance as Tommy Jarvis and so much more.
