We continue in David’s struggle with sin as he shows his humanity by trying to use his gifts of cleverness to conceal and lie about his sin. The boys discuss how this only deepens the hole you are in and digging out starts with repentance.

This episode is only 5 verses. When it comes to battling the flesh a father has so much personal experience he can teach his children. This story of David and Bathsheba starts with the most obvious lesson: to win the battle against sin you have to first be in the battle. We discuss taking every thought captive when we find our idle minds thinking about sin, and we highlight the maturation Joseph showed over David when he ran from this sin. It’s a strength David, and quite honestly we, have a hard time finding.

We kick off this episode with a short reading from a book written by John West reminding us to stay focused on promoting God with our work and not promoting ourselves. In chapter 10 we see the ammonites falling to David and conclude with a lesson that when chariots can no longer save us, when running can no longer save us, we can always do what we always should have - turn to Him and find his security. The criminal next to Christ on the cross did this best.

Tonight King David offers Mephibosheth, son of his late friend Jonathan, a special blessing. The boys discuss both the often overlooked blessing of a big family, as well as the Lord’s blessing Mephibosheth undeservedly even in the midst of his physical impairments. Where the world disqualifies, the Lord qualifies.

Join us in chapter 8 as we see the expansion of David’s kingdom and review chapter 7 in terms of Jesus lineage and Joseph’s lineage through Jekoniah. We finish by discussing young men understanding the sacred nature of their bodies.

The Lord makes a promise of the Messiah through Nathaniel the prophet to David lineage. The boys discuss the lineage of David through Mary vs the lineage of Joseph which proves the conception via the Holy Spirit. We conclude by relating to David’s praise to undeserved favor in a Father’s life.

In chapter 6 Uzzah son of Abinadab is dealt with firmly for his irreverence to the Lords law. David needs reminding to step into his blessing that others are receiving. The boys discuss trusting your identity to the finished work of Christ and worshipping him with passion, unlike David’s wife Michal.
