A beer meetup that feeds people sounds like a feel-good slogan, until you hear how it’s actually being run. We’re joined by Paul, who helped launch the Michigan chapter of Beer Drinkers of America, and he lays out a simple, surprisingly effective model: pick a slow night at a local bar or brewery, bring in a crowd that wouldn’t have been there, and have the venue donate a portion of that extra revenue directly to a local food pantry. No complicated fundraising, no passing the hat, just community showing up and letting the math do the work.
We talk through what he learned while volunteering, including the difference between a food bank and a food pantry, and why food insecurity is closer than many of us want to admit. Then we get into the practical details people actually care about: what membership costs, what’s expected of members, and where the next meetup is happening. If you love local taprooms, want to support restaurants that are trying to survive, and also want your happy hour to do something real, this is a blueprint you can copy.
And yes, we drink. Paul brings a perfect warm-weather curveball, the “Spaghett” beer cocktail (light lager, Campari, citrus), and we rate it live. From there we bounce into craft beer highs and closures, special bottle shares, and even a whiskey nerd detour into infinity bottles and budget bourbons that overdeliver.
Subscribe for more, share this with a friend who loves beer with a story, and leave a review with your go-to “drink for a cause” idea so we can try it.
