Episode 8 of Beercast Leeds takes us to the independent-minded suburb of Farsley, and the Amity Brew Co tap room. 

We hear how the founders took a huge gamble during the pandemic - a gamble that certainly seems to be paying off. 

The history of the site - an old fabric drying space - bears strongly on the brewery’s present. And speaking of fabrics, there is some disturbing visual imagery, as Paul considers trying on a lycra cycling top.  It's all above board though, as part of chat on why cycling and beer go so well together. 

Simon Jenkins is back with another Pint Sized History of Leeds - this time at the beautiful Adelphi - and producer Johnny has been checking out the newest brewery tap room in Leeds - Tartarus.

Episode 7 of Beercast Leeds finds us warmly ensconced in Kirkstall Brewery’s Tap Room.

More than most, Kirkstall connects the threads of brewing history and brewing present. Founders John and Steve talk about their origins overlooking the River Aire, and about that time they were photographed having a pint while chest-deep in the River Aire. It’s a lovely - if not slightly scary - story.

We finally get to meet Liam from Anthology Brewing, who everyone has been telling us is the nicest guy working in the industry - NO PRESSURE LIAM.

Simon Jenkins is back with another Pint Sized History of Leeds - producer Johnny has been all the way to London to find out how one brewery is saving the planet one slice of bread at a time… and the freshly-opened Meanwood Tavern becomes our pub/bar of the week.

Don’t forget “Brew Wants To Be A Millionaire” (working title) - although there’s a rumour that the questions this week are stupidly difficult.

Our hosts set up in Leeds after coming over from Venezuela - and use quite extraordinary ingredients to make spectacular beer.

Annabel also provides a Barley Wine in excess of 11%, to pair with blue cheese. It’s dead classy like.

Back with another episode of beery fun - this week we're in the small, rustic but perfectly formed surroundings of Horsforth Brewery. This place is chock-a-block with personality and the beers to match. It proved the perfect place to sit, drink and chat about today's themes: Women in Beer.

Whilst quaffing some gorgeous brews, we natter about how accessible and welcoming the industry is for women, and what needs to be done to be a truly accessible place.

We've been to the Leeds International Beer Festival to see the Covers in action - a space dedicated to women in beer, and visit our latest stop on Leeds' Ultimate Beer Crawl (working title) - Brew York in Leeds.

Where else could we start but in Leeds’ most historic and storied pub: Whitelocks. It's a boozer so steeped in history that it could have its very own 10 part podcast series (*note to self – that’s a not a bad idea). 

Sitting, surrounded by it’s beautiful marble and copper bar, tiled front and etched mirrors we’re joined by manager Beth Templeton to discuss the history of a pub that Sir John Betjeman described as the “Very heart of Leeds”. 

We delve into the current scene with renowned beer writer Simon Jenkins and take a look at just how rich the local landscape is with Maz Terron Busteros from The Leeds Beer Festival. We also receive the first nomination for our Big Beery Pub Tour which we’ll record as our final grand episode, and our reporter Johnny meet some brilliant folk growing hops in their back garden for their local brewery, which pays them in beer of course.

Oh and we should probably mention we drank some beautiful beer too including a glorious Whitelocks/Kirkstall Brewery IPA collaboration, a stone-cold classic from Timothy Taylor's and a fruity number from The Kernel Brewery.
