It is a definite honour to be joined by Adelaide’s own, Delta for the 38th installment of Beers, Beats & The Biz.

This is Part 1 of our epic sit-down with Delta, in this episode we go from his childhood in Adelaide discovering hip hop and on through the creation of his debut classic, The Lostralian.

We talk about his studies in philosophy, travel, the importance of family on all he does, visiting New York in the late 90’s - and his many visits since, various ADL gigs, his early influences and battling.

From there, we discuss his signing to Melbourne label, Nuff Said and his early introduction - via the Scratch Perverts - to future collaborator, Mark B and on to the making and release of The Lostralian.

We also take time to pay homage and speak on the impact, legacy and untimely passing of Mark B.

This is the first part of an epic conversation that runs the gamut of Delta’s career to date, we can never thank the man enough for his time and contributions, stay tuned for part 2 in December.

We caught Hau between his numerous engagements for Brisbane’s Big Sound festival and proceeded to break down the come-up with someone that has lived the culture.

From his early days growing up Tongan in the ACT, to forming Koolism with his childhood friend, DJ Danielsan and on to the national airwaves of Triple J, Hau continues to be about this life.

We speak on the responsibility that comes with being at the helm of Australia’s only national platform for hip hop, Triple J’s Hip Hop Show, moving into the media and the importance of Koolism - one of Australia’s greatest duos.

Between it all we talk about the influence other prominent local MCs had on him, we talk tours, ARIA’s, religion, albums, robberies, songs, mentoring, family and of course music, which is still the motivation behind all of Hau’s career moves.

It’s an honour to be joined by - and to learn from - someone that has made hip hop in Australia their career and we can never than Hau enough for his time and insight.

Ep. 32 - All Hail The Queen featuring DJ Krisy and Madhat

It’s our first birthday and it’s an honour to be joined by the legendary DJ Krisy and MC Madhat for the 32nd instalment of Beers, Beats & The Biz.

This episode is a journey from hip hop’s earliest days in Australia with two people that were at the forefront of it, from breaking to graffiti and on to radio and live shows.

Krisy started breaking around 84, painting graffiti not long after and launched her seminal radio show, Steppin to the AM in 89/90. Her partner Madhat is a B-Boy, writer and was a member of Positive Direction, Acapulco Gold and Towering Inferno - alongside Lazy Grey and DJ Damage.

We talk it all from the Street Style Breakers to Krisy partnering with Tiff and painting some of history’s most iconic walls. We talk Madhat’s time at the writers bench, on the streets of Melbourne and his travels as a member of Australian hip hop culture’s earliest crews.

We talk about the influence of AKA and DJ C, we talk the Betty Boop wall, panels, Richmond station’s writers bench, Acapulco Gold, Brisbane’s St Valentines Massacre show, travelling, Big Bamboo, connecting with others before the internet and the sheer influence of Krisy and her radio show Steppin to the AM.

This episode is packed from front to back and we couldn’t have celebrated our first trip around the sun with two nicer and more iconic individuals. We only exist out here due to the paths paved and battles fought by Krisy and Madhat.

Episode 30. Imagination’s the Only Element ft. Raph Boogie

It’s an honour to be joined by the busy and always industrious, Raph Boogie for the 30th instalment of Beers, Beats & The Biz.

We caught a couple of hours with the man in lead up to him flipping burgers for 24 hours at his Brunswick locale, Beatbox Kitchen - all in the name of charity.

Raph Boogie is an inspiration. As an MC in groups Azwan, Faces of Debt and Mnemonic Ascent, label head for Crookneck, published author, photographer and helming one of Australia’s earliest streetwear company’s, Blank.

The man is an entrepreneur and has carried hip hop in this country through his various enterprises, from his days working his fathers restaurant after school to running three food trucks and a restaurant of his own.

We talk everything from his early groups and getting around Melbourne, to starting Blank with Danny Young and knowing when a business has run its course, and on to photographing some of our favourite producers and having them published.

We talk the Big Bamboo and Melbourne city, we talk Crookneck Records and releasing Banned In Queensland, we talk Mnemonic Ascents’ live show and debut Honour to Be, we talk Studios and taking THOSE photos of Dilla at his MPC.

In this episode, we go back to their early days and where hip hop and making music begins and then chart Kers and Jay’s journey from battling, recording and on to fortune, fame and success.

Honest, humble and often hilarious, Kerser and Jay are never less than candid - from discussing their upbringing in low-income housing to finding huge success (and then being shunned) in the Australian music industry.

Between it all we talk everything from dealing with the demands of fans to being ignored by radio and ARIA, we talk management and being ripped off to creating your own success and being ambitious enough to make it happen.
