Christian Liberty, Conscience & Kingdom Living

In this episode of the Beers & Bible Podcast, we continue through Romans 14 and wrestle with the tension between legalism, Christian liberty, conscience, and love for one another.

Paul reminds us that Christian freedom isn’t about doing whatever we want. It’s about belonging to Christ and using our freedom in a way that honors Him and builds up His people.

We talk about the difference between God’s moral law and human traditions, how Christians should respond to the “weaker brother,” why we shouldn’t bind consciences where God has given freedom, and why our liberty should always be governed by love.

The kingdom of God isn’t about winning arguments over food, drink, or personal preferences. It’s about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. 🕊️

And Paul gives us a better question than simply, “Am I allowed to do this?”

Paul reminds us that Christian love is never fake, shallow, or passive. It hates what is evil, clings tightly to what is good, honors others above self, serves the Lord with zeal, rejoices in hope, stays patient in suffering, and remains steadfast in prayer.

We also talk about what it means to bless others, show hospitality, rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep, and walk in humility rather than selfish ambition. The Christian life is not lived alone—it is lived together as the family of God, shaped by the mercy of Christ.

Paul reminds us that the church is one body with many members. Not everyone has the same role, but every role matters. Whether it is teaching, serving, giving, leading, or showing mercy, every gift is from God and should be used faithfully, diligently, and cheerfully.

The gospel humbles us because everything we have is grace. The gospel also sends us into service because our gifts are not just for us — they are for Christ’s church. 🙌

🍻 Romans 12:1–2

This week we step into Romans 12 and Paul’s call to live in light of the mercies of God. After eleven chapters of rich gospel truth, Paul turns to the practical response: present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.

Christian worship is not just something we do on Sunday morning. It is the whole life offered back to God in gratitude for the grace we have received in Christ. Because Jesus gave Himself for us, we now give ourselves to Him.

We also talk about what it means to not be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. The Christian life is not about outward religious performance, but inward transformation by the power of God’s Word and Spirit.

In Romans 11, Paul asks the question: Has God rejected His people? His answer is clear — certainly not.
