If you been following the rapper Dax on social media you already know he's the most talented rapper to ever hoop. The man had big plans to make it as a professional basketball player playing for three teams in 4 and a half years putting in an endless amount of blood sweat and tears. With things not exactly going as planned Dax found himself working the night shift as a school janitor and it was during this humbling experience that he fell in love with spoken poetry and rap... which would have him going in an entirely different direction.

2018 seemed to be the year that the Lil’s took over. From Lil Baby to Lil Skies, there were a lot of rappers with the first name Lil who had a BIG year. But putting Lil in a rap name is far from new. According to an article by DJ Booth, Lil Troy became the first Lil to gain mainstream notice with his song “Wanna Be a Baller” which was released all the way back in 1988. And while there were many more in between, Lil Kim became one of the most famous to use the moniker. And who can forget about Lil Bow Wow?

Before YNW Melly would drop tracks like Blue Balenciagas, Butter Pecan, and the smash M***** on My Mind, which he now wants to be called Mischief on My Mind. Understandable after the lyrics from the song actually got him in trouble with the law. Either way, the video has over 60 million views on YouTube and is certified gold. Before he would collab with artists from Tee Grizzley to Supreme Patty and would be seen in the studio with Kanye West. Before he would garner 590k followers on Instagram, 630k subscribers on his YouTube channel, and close to 90k on his Soundcloud page. I don’t know what they have in the water in Florida, but they are producing all of the hottest rappers in the game. From Kodak to Ski Mask and now YNW Melly. His friend and collaborator YNW JUVY says that to people growing up in their hometown of Gifford, success is nothing more than a 9-5 job and an out of townhouse with a regular routine. However, there are always a few who dream of more.
