Problem-solving, creativity, and resilience are required skills and qualities in the workforce of today – and tomorrow. For girls and young women, in particular, early experience in these domains can make a big difference when they apply for jobs, supervise others, seek a promotion, or ask for a raise.

The 2015 federal election attracted the largest youth vote in recorded Canadian history. This upward participation trend changes the narrative that young people are apathetic about democracy and gives them growing power at the ballot box.

Growing up, Mara O’Brien-James was surrounded by “strong-minded, opinionated women who knew the world was not entirely built the way it should be.” Now, as a mom and professional herself (Mara joined CARE Canada in 2009 and is now serving as its Interim President and CEO), she’s working to break gender stereotypes and eliminate barriers to equality around the world.
