In our final episode of the series, we will dicuss the failings of the criminal justice system in regard to sexual assault cases, including the backlog of rape kits, the role of police and prosecutors, victims being revictimized by the system, the lack of justice experienced by victims, and potential solutions to these issues.
In this episode, we will discuss sexual assault in the military, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the military justice process, military sexual trauma, and my work with Protect Our Defenders, which is the pre-eminent national human rights organization decidated to ending sexual violence, victim retaliation, misogyny, sexual prejudice, and racism in the military.
In this episode we will dicuss sexual assault in the entertainment industry, including prevalence, Harvey Weinstein and the Me Too Movement, Time’s Up, the Fox News scandal, and prevention. Before we begin, I want to define what the entertainment industry is. For our purposes, the entertainment industry includes anyone involved in providing entertainment, including those in radio, television, films, and theater.
The key questions I will be asking and answering in this episode are: how common is sexual assault in prisons, how does reporting sexual assault in prisons work, how can inmates seek treatment, how do you go about prosecuting sexual assault in prisons, how to prevent sexual assault in prisons, and the impact it has on victims.
In this episode, we will discuss the Brock Turner case, how common college sexual assault is, why it is so common, the relationship between sports teams and greek life with sexual assault, and title nine. This episode will focus specifically on four year colleges with residential experiences.
In this episode, we will be talking about rape myths, their effects, and the role of the media in perpetuating and ending rape myths.
In this episode, we will be talking about the psychological, physiological, social, and economic effects of sexual assault, as well as various treatment options for survivors. It’s important to keep in mind when talking about the effects of sexual assault that not all survivors are the same and every individual will be affected differently.
This episode provides insight into what the podcast will be about as well as an overview of what sexual assault is, who the victims and perpetrators are, and some important statistics.
