In episode 24,  I’ll be virtually traveling from my Safety Harbor, Florida studio across the pond to London and into the studio of Venezuelan multidisciplinary artist RENATA FERNANDEZ  

Renata talks about her depiction of nature. She says that it is one that is as attractive as uneasy, mesmerizing as it is broody, an otherworldly ‘Menacing Beauty’ that lets us believe there is something intangible behind the foliage that could be distinctly unfriendly.  We discover that we both began our education as artists with private oil painting teachers and expanded our practices as adults to becoming multimedia artists.   In the end, the conversation flows into the world of NFT Art. 

Renata talks about a Twitter hashtag that she and a few fellow NFT artists are using #nftsupportpledge. Listen in to hear about that.  Her studio is in North West London, in a very industrial setting (Willesden Junction). The area is called Royal Oak, the building (with 16 studios) is one of only 3 studio buildings in the area, surrounded by cars.

In episode 22, I’ll be virtually traveling from my Safety Harbor, Florida north to Chicago and into the garage studio of visual artist Ellen Holtzblatt.  Ellen’s work is fueled by the exploration of the connection between the physical and the spiritual - the memories of the body that reside in the soul - in which landscape becomes an allegory for psyche and emotion, evolution and decay.  Ellen and I talk about her love of painting landscapes as an abstraction with some standing and some lying down. Here strokes of the ink pen and brushstrokes are gestural in nature. I really am drawn to her paintings of her 97-year-old mother and ask her about those pieces.

Her Witty Art is where cartoon & pop art meets surrealism and expressionism. In her work she explores universal human themes, using bizarre, animalistic, cartoonesque, fable-like creatures to visualize them. She's based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.  Here's a note from Christy after the show.
