Get ready for an electrifying episode of Behind the Jersey, featuring Chase Solesky, a pitcher in the Washington Nationals organization who's faced the ups, downs, and unexpected twists of a true baseball odyssey. This is the story of a Florida native who’s been defying the odds since he stepped on the mound.

Chase’s journey started in Fort Pierce, Florida, where he made a name for himself at John Carroll Catholic High School. After high school, he took his talents to Tulane University in New Orleans, where he spent three years racking up a 12-9 record and striking out 123 batters in 163 innings. He was on the radar, and in 2019, the Chicago White Sox called his name in the 21st round of the MLB Draft. But that’s where the real battle began.

Starting in the rookie leagues of Great Falls, Montana, his career hit a major roadblock when the 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the pandemic. While many players were left wondering what’s next, Chase wasn’t giving up. He fought through uncertainty and came back stronger in 2021, dominating Class-A ball and catching the attention of scouts. By the end of 2022, he was promoted to Double-A Birmingham—a major milestone in his journey.

But the biggest challenge came in 2023. After putting up impressive numbers at Double-A, Chase got the call to Triple-A with the Charlotte Knights—a team packed with MLB veterans. The competition was fierce, and the pressure was on. It wasn’t the breakout season Chase had hoped for, but every setback became fuel for his fire.

In March 2024, after being released by the White Sox, many thought his story was over. But Chase wasn’t done yet. He signed with the independent league’s Hagerstown Flying Boxcars, and just six weeks later, he was picked up by the Washington Nationals. Now, he’s back in the game and ready to chase his big-league dream once again.

In this episode, Chase opens up about his relentless pursuit of greatness, the challenges he’s faced, and what it really takes to keep going when everything seems stacked against you. From the highs of pitching with big-league vets to the lows of being released, this is a story of resilience, passion, and the relentless grind of a baseball career.

We’re back with a bang! After a hiatus, Behind the Jersey returns with an electrifying episode featuring Daunte Stuart, the University of Memphis baseball sensation whose journey from high school standout to college star is nothing short of legendary.

Daunte’s baseball journey kicked off as a freshman at Northwestern State, where he burst onto the scene starting all 16 games at second base. He immediately made an impact, hitting safely in nine consecutive games and drawing attention with his gritty play and knack for clutch moments.

As a sophomore, Daunte’s star continued to rise. He started the first 52 games of the season, leading NSU’s hitters in nearly every category – batting average, home runs, RBIs, total bases, and slugging percentage. His power surge included multiple multi-hit games and a memorable stretch where he homered in three consecutive games.

In his junior year, Daunte solidified his place as a force to be reckoned with. Starting 55 games as the team’s second baseman, he delivered key hits, drove in crucial runs, and ended the season with 109 career walks, ranking among the school’s all-time leaders. His defining moment came with a game-winning double in extra innings against Louisiana Tech, propelling him over the 100-RBI mark for his career.

Transitioning to Memphis for his senior year, Daunte continued to rewrite the record books. He became the fourth Tiger to hit for the cycle, showcasing his versatility and skill on the diamond. His highlight reel includes a flawless 5-for-5 performance at the plate, solidifying his place among Memphis baseball greats.

Daunte’s dedication and talent have earned him numerous accolades, from being named to prestigious watch lists like the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award to securing All-American and All-Conference honors. In his formative years at Kentucky, AJ Reed earned his place as one of the most impressive two-way players in college baseball. As a freshman in 2012, he made history, becoming the first consensus first-team freshman All-American in Kentucky's baseball history. Playing in 55 games, Reed showcased his versatility, hitting .300 with four home runs and 43 runs batted in as a batter. Simultaneously, as a pitcher, he achieved a 5–3 record, a 2.52 ERA, and 51 strikeouts, leaving an indelible mark.

His sophomore season in 2013 only solidified Reed's reputation. Starting all 55 games, he excelled both as a batter and a pitcher, hitting .280 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs while maintaining a 2–8 record, 4.04 ERA, and 52 strikeouts on the mound. Reed's summer stints with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2012 and 2013 further showcased his dedication to honing his skills in a competitive environment.

The zenith of Reed's college career arrived in 2014 during his junior year. Boasting an impressive batting average of .336/.476/.735, he led the nation in home runs with a staggering 23. On the pitching front, he displayed dominance with a 12–2 record, a 2.09 ERA, and 71 strikeouts. His outstanding performance earned him prestigious accolades, including the Golden Spikes Award, the Dick Howser Trophy, the John Olerud Award, SEC Player of the Year, and National Player of the Year from Collegiate Baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association. Additionally, Reed was recognized as the Baseball America College Player of the Year. His excellence transcended the diamond, making him the SEC Male Athlete of the Year across all sports.

Cross's legacy is woven with accolades and achievements that mirror his unparalleled contributions to the sport. During his tenure with the San Francisco 49ers from 1976 to 1988, he secured an impressive list of career highlights and awards. As a three-time Super Bowl champion (XVI, XIX, XXIII), Cross played a pivotal role in the 49ers' triumphs, solidifying his status as a football legend.

His on-field prowess is further underscored by being a three-time First-team All-Pro (1981, 1984, 1985), earning a Second-team All-Pro nod in 1986. The Pro Bowl became a regular stage for Cross, who was selected three times (1981, 1982, 1984). His exceptional skills were evident from the start, as he was also recognized on the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 1976.

From 1989 to 1993, Cross was a member of the CBS Sports team that covered the NFC playoffs and Super Bowl XXVI. In addition, he served as an analyst for CBS Radio Sports' coverage of Super Bowl XXIV, filling in for Hank Stram when the latter was stricken with laryngitis and had to leave the broadcast in the third quarter of the game.

Cross left CBS (following their loss of the NFC package to Fox) to join NBC Sports as a football analyst for NFL telecasts and a part-time analyst for Notre Dame football games. In 1998, he returned to CBS Sports as a game analyst before serving as a studio analyst on The NFL Today from 1999 to 2001. He eventually returned to his game analyst duties in 2002.

He also co-hosts shows on the Sirius NFL Radio. In 2009, he became the color analyst for US Naval Academy home games on CBS College Sports TV. He is the former lead color commentator for New England Patriots pre-season games, from 1995 to 2012, alongside Don Criqui. Randy was a co-host of the midday show "Rick and Randy" with Rick Kamla on WZGC, a CBS radio station in Atlanta, Georgia, before being released from the station.
