Dr. Timothy de Wet is the first local student in the combined MD-PhD program at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He earned his PhD in 2021 and is currently in his final year of medical school. Today, he shares his journey of finding and pursuing MD-PhD training, discusses how this training differs in South Africa, and offers his thoughts on the future of the clinician-scientist in the South African scientific and medical ecosystem.
