If you’ve visited Havana Phil’s or been following us for a while, you might recognize our guest. His towering height, contagious laugh and welcoming presence make him hard to miss-that’s Big Ed. He might not be a Segal by birth rite but he’s family around here. His journey started with a proposal to move to Greensboro for his career, making fast friends in the industry with none other than Havana Phil III himself. Ed recalls the found memories of sneaking off to Canes games to end the day early, and their long hours creating the new shop together. When Ed received the news that he had been diagnosed with Renal Kidney Failure, he leaned on words from his old pal, “life is too short to smoke shitty cigars.” Make the most of every moment you have left. His life may look a little different these days, but that hasn’t stopped Ed from enjoying life’s simple pleasures. His tendencious spirit reminds us all to love a little harder, laugh a little more and be thankful for every part of the ride. Grab a sip and a smoke-this is a good one.

Just days away, we’re gearing up for one of Winston Salem’s biggest events of the year. Twin City Fashion Week boasts a collective of models, artists, designers-all ready to see their hard work come to life. This draw to Camel City was developed by the creative mind, DJ Hargraves. A graduate of High Point University and a WS native, Hargraves constructed the plans for TCFW after interning for Greensboro’s fashion week. Despite owning and designing his own line, Modern Grit, DJ sheds light on the idea that this event is about so much more than just the fashion. It’s a chance to enrich and enable a community that he calls home. You’re not going to want to miss this! Grab a sip, a smoke and a ticket by checking out TwinCityfashionweek.com. See you there! In the final episode of season 2 our friend, author and inspirational speaker, Daniel Ritchie is back in the lounge. Daniel was born without arms and is using his affliction to bring hope to others through inspirational speaking. His book My Affliction For His Glory offers a glimpse into what it's like to be born without arms and the challenges he has faced since birth. The man can change a tire, drive, run a chainsaw and smoke a cigar with his feet. We learn about the awkward interactions as well as opportunities that open up as he walks through the world with no arms. As always tends to happen in Daniels presence, he leaves us with a beautiful sense of hope and purpose.
