  • Kalilah Wright CMO "Chief Mess Officer" at Mess In A Bottle
Kalilah is a graduate of Penn State University and Morgan State University with a Masters in Architecture.  After college the Brooklyn native migrated to Baltimore and worked as a designer for Under Armour.  Baltimore erupted after the death of Freddie Gray and Kalilah noticed there's was a disconnect in the neighborhood she worked and lived.
So rather than stand on the sidelines and do nothing she started "MESS IN A BOTTLE".  Mess in a Bottle's concept is based on a form of communication; dating as far back AS 310 B.C.  "I started Mess In A Bottle as a to give voice to the voiceless, giving them something to say without having to say a word.
The recent assassination of Nipsey Hussle hits close to home for Kalilah, after being victim of an armed robbery-she almost gave up pursuing the business.  The armed perpetrators didn't get any money but, what they stole from Kalilah was hope.  It would've been easy to close up her brick in mortar shop, instead she followed her gut and shared her experience on social media and her tribe responded with placing thousands of orders.
I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did preparing for it, conducting the actual interview and doing the editing.  Please please it would mean so much to me if you'd tell your friends about the podcast share it write a review on iTunes if it sucks say so; tell me what you like and what you think we can improve as we strive to continue brining you the absolute best in running and entertainment aka RUNUTAINMENT.

  • Charlie Dark Interview
This was an exploration into the evolution of Charlie Dark, the DJ, Poet, Founder of Run Dem Crew in London, Influencer, leader and yogi.  We sat down for an intimate conversation in his home surrounded by thousands of 12inch and 45 records a collection which he amassed over the decades.  When he's not rescuing dance hall records you'll probably find him running with his crew or teaching Yoga to beginners.  "Running has had a tremendous impact on my life but yoga has had a bigger impact".
I was curious to find out why, so invited him on the show to share his story.  After signed to a major record label with Sony under the moniker Attica Blues and then being dropped Charlie became disillusioned with the music industry and fell into a deep depression.  Running helped Charlie escape from that dark period in his life.
Run Dem Crew was born out a simple desire and mission to keep his friends alive.  Watching from afar over the years I realized there were many layers  to the man.  Charlie had no idea that his small selfless gesture would travel around the world.  Decades early Hip Hop had traveled to London and other parts of the world, now the idea of running crews were popping up around the world.  I grew up in an era when Hip Hop was in its infancy stages, I'm talking about when DJ's would hook up their sound systems to the light poles for power.  I was curios about the rise in popularity of running crews and Charlies is a legend in the game.  But, I was more fascinated with his ability to adapt to the change in the market.
Change is the only constant in life and we refuse to change we cease growing; "I always feel disappointment is the best thing that can happen because it jolts you back to reality".  It is this snap back to reality after being dropped that keeps him humble with a servant attitude.  Before being an influencer was even a thing Charlie was creating relationships with brands so his kids would have a safe warm place to meet.
After tuning in it would me so much to me if you'd rate and write a review on iTunes

  • Tell Your Truth Thursday
We all have a store to tell and who better to tell your story than you. But for whatever the reason you may be hesitant to share your truth. What I have found is that once you open and share your truth it empowers others to do the same. Staying silent is what empowers abusers and shields them from having to be confronted with their tragic offenses perpetrated on innocent victims; meanwhile the victims are left broken having to deal with the stain and shame from the traumatic experience. As a kid I was abused by an adult within the NYC Public School system. I thought it was my fault, at the time I had no idea what was appropriate or inappropriate behavior. My parents didn’t talk about the birds and the bees Mets Jets or Sex-so we were left to explore on our own. When I finally did open up as an adult it was thrown back in my face. I can totally understand why Its easier to keep those feeling buried in a box. I literally felt like a knotted in a box. Which is what I called my bow tie company “Knots In A Box” because that’s exactly how I felt. Through the creative process and sharing I started to find relief. I continue to find relief through pursuing my dreams and empowering others to do the same. I never want to get to the place where I feel as though I’ve arrived so I’ll continue to strive and remain teachable. The Black Tux

  • Pump Up The Volume On Positivity
The volume frequency speed of information flowing on the internet via social media, 📺 , 🚂 , ✈️ billboards and 🚕 can be overwhelming.
Seems like everyone is trying to grab our attention; it’s funny because that’s exactly what I’m trying to do-so I guess I’m just as guilty.
Even if I’m trying to drown of negative noise and pump up the volume on positivity, some might argue I’m only adding to an already saturated market.
And I’d have to disagree, I think we’ve become adept at ignoring billboard, pop banners etc. So if you’re on the fence about putting a message out in the world just do, this would be the ideal time to make it happen.
In this episode I talk about how I used to start me day with a dose of outrage and why I changed that practice. This episode is sponsored The Black Tux

  • Live Event at Toast Cafe In Brooklyn
Toast Cafe is what happens when you have over two decades of friendships Angelo Wayne and Mike are the owners of Toast.  Conveniently located in the heart of Brooklyn.  Angelo-(one of the owners) is an avid runner and Chiropractor.  During this episode we chop it up about his latest entrepreneurial venture.
I traveled from Connecticut to catch up with a few friends after a run in preparation for the NYC Half Marathon.  I found the atmosphere warm, inviting and kid friendly.  Toast is conveniently located in the heart of Brooklyn. It has the rustic decor and the avocado toast was amazing.
There's a huge screen for movie night and the cafe has bar style sitting and lounge area also.  Off in the rear of the store was a huge kid themed carpet when I inquired as to what the deal was Angelo one of the owners said they have set up as a kid area, so folks in the neighborhood can have a place for their toddlers to play while they sip on their beverage.
    They also carry CBD products.

  • TGIF Race Weekend Unicorn of The Day Richard Fuller
We kicked off this episode on FB and IG and the response was fantastic.  We started off with a few questions: What's your morning routine?, Where are you racing this weekend? DD shoe is a yes or a no go for you? Coffee Wars DD, 5Bucks , McDonalds of BK 50cent ?  What's on your feet?  and what type of bike do you ride and have you tried that new Beyond Meat burger?
As the calls started coming in from around country is was hard for me to contain my enthusiasm.  We covered the essentials of getting fitted for a bike with Khadijah Diggs who is a the USA Triathlon Team, which answered Will's from Bklyn question about bikes.  Felicia recently started riding Peloton bikes after recovering from an injury, she has run all 50 States and will be in NYC for Peloton Home Invasion in May.  Felicia shared her weight losing tips from her friend and triathlon coach dd_fitspiration on IG.  I was so tempted to say bye Felicia when we got off the phone.
We talked with out sole brothers Chip and Juan about the new DD Saucony Kinvara.  Then we rounded out the hour with ways in which you can get your "Black Card" with Angela.
Richard Fuller is our Unicorn of the Day,  I had the pleasure of meeting Richard and during our conversation it was obvious to me that he's passion about the work that he does at his Global Pollution nonprofit Pure Earth.
At the start of the show I talked about a problem I was having with my glasses, I hit the company up in the DM on IG and they assured me someone from their customer service department would reach out to me a day went by and I didn't hear from them and as fate would have it as we were wrapping up the show EyebuyDirect called.  Y'all already know how I strongly I feel about service.
I hope you enjoy this episode

  • Creating A New Habit
We're about to enter the 2nd Quarter, many have already abandoned their New Years Resolutions-I I know that may sound pessimistic but I'm a realist.  Don't worry you can still win the 4th Quarter and that's a theme I'm working on for a future blog post or a book who knows.  In this episode I wanted to try something different on the show that would get the "RUNUNATION" audience involved.
So I posed a question on IG and FB about habits specifically how you make a new habit stick, meal prep ideas for mobile vegans, spring cleaning and finally, do you have you summer body yet-(which was a track I produced for the weekly race recap visit https://derekoxley.com/media to listen) It was a lot of fun we had a some call in guest on the episode and folks responding on IG and FB.
Check it out and if you have already done so rate and write a review of the podcast on iTunes, it would mean sooooo much to me- it would help me in my quest to keep bringing you the absolute best in RUNUTAINMENT aka Running and Entertainment.
