  • Don't Code Switch - Be Unapologetically Yourself with Angela Thompkins

As a Black professional, you are probably guilty of it. I know I am.

It's called code-switching, and The Harvard Business Review defines it as "adjusting one's style of speech, appearance, behavior, and expression in ways that will optimize the comfort of others in exchange for fair treatment, quality service, and employment opportunities."

In this episode of the Being Brown at Work Podcast, Angela Thompkins, Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at Consumers Energy joins me to talk about code-switching and how we can show up unapologetically ourselves in the workplace.

As Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer, Angela is responsible for setting and monitoring the company's diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategy, and partnering with organizational leaders to improve results related to DEI.

Additionally, she is responsible for establishing and building relationships with communities and organizations that increase the availability of diverse talent within the long-term talent pipeline.

  • Strategically and Successfully Navigating Imposter Syndrome

Do you feel unworthy of the praise and accolades you receive at work?

Or perhaps you feel that you don't deserve the promotion you received...and feel like a "fraud"?

If you identify with the above scenarios, you likely suffer from imposter syndrome.

Imposter Syndrome isolates us from our wins and feeds on our own insecurities. Even if we have data to show we're doing a great job, we can't help but feel like it isn't real and people won't believe us.

So how do we eliminate it from our lives, and silence the negative self-talk?

Listen in on this episode as I discuss imposter syndrome and how to successfully navigate it.
