Have you ever tried negotiating a higher salary?
Just the thought of attempting to ask for more money can send most people wanting to run and hide. However, it's all about perspective.
Quite simply, negotiating a higher salary is about asking for fair pay for your work and the experience you bring to the table. Obviously, it should be an appropriate request because asking for something unreasonable will get you nowhere.
But first things first: How do you know what's 'fair'? And once you know...how do you ask for it?
This week on Being Brown At Work, I'll be discussing Bridging the Salary Gap - How to Secure a Salary that Matches Your Worth with my special guest Claudia Miller.
Claudia is a career coach who helps career-driven women get to the next level in their careers. She's been featured in Forbes, MSNBC, and Thrive Global. Last year, Business Insider included her in their global list of Top 23 Most Innovative Career Coaches. It's time to get paid what you're worth.
Join me for this exciting conversation, and learn some tips on how to get it done!

For Black and Brown women, feeling uncomfortable at work is a phenomenon that long predated the pandemic. It's no wonder so many are dreading the return to work.
The most common reason for not wanting to return to work involves not wanting to return to dealing with microaggressions and code-switching.
Can you relate?
Join me in this episode as I dig into why it is at another level for Black and Brown women and what can be done to make it bearable.

As Black and Brown women embarking on our corporate journeys, we're often told to keep our heads down and work twice as hard as everyone else to get ahead.
I used to think the same thing - until I looked up and realized that people around me were getting promoted, and I was still stuck in place.
I had to learn the hard way that there's WAY MORE to getting promoted than just what you know.
Listen in to this episode as I share how one supports the other and are key for Black and Brown women in the workplace.

When I was growing up, the main gap or challenge that existed was education inequality.
Today, the divide still exists but is greater due to the rise of technology.
The digital divide is a major gap for children of color who predominantly attend public schools. It is critical that we put intentional focus and effort into bridging the gap, to prepare Black and Brown youth to fill the pipeline in adulthood.
In this episode of the podcast, I am honored to have Monica Woodson, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan as my guest.
We will discuss the gaps that exist in the workplace, be it nonprofit or for profit companies, and the work that is needed to fill the pipeline.
As CEO of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, Monica works in the nonprofit space where the same disparaging percentages exist for Black and Brown CEOs.
Monica has an extensive background in nonprofit programming and leadership, and significant experience working with organizations serving young people including Girl Scouts.
She maintains her commitment to serving the community as a volunteer for the National Conference of Artists –Michigan Chapter, and serving on the board of Southwest Solutions Counseling, and Advisory Board of the Citizen's Research Council of Michigan, and the Changing Children's Worlds Foundation of Illinois.
