Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus (Gosatomnadzor) issued a permit for the power start-up of the first nuclear power unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant
"On October 23, the collegium of the Ministry for Emergency Situations made a positive decision on amending the license of the “Belarusian NPP” State Enterprise for the right to carry out activities in the field of the use of atomic energy and sources of ionizing radiation, allowing to begin the implementation of the stage program of the energy start-up of power unit No. 1," the press service of the Department reported.
This decision is based on the conclusion of Gosatomnadzor, which, in accordance with the current legislation, reviewed the results of the examination of documents justifying safety and checked the readiness of the Belarusian NPP to perform the declared activities.
As reported, the first fueling of the core, tests in subcritical state of the reactor unit, the performance of physical experiments at a minimum controlled level, power start-up and pilot operation are allowed after checking the readiness for the relevant stages of NPP commissioning and obtaining special permits (licenses).
After the completion of these stages, the issue of granting a license to operate the first power unit will be considered. It is issued before the start of the work of the state commission for the acceptance of the facility into operation.
Gosatomnadzor draws attention: before the issuance of a license for the operation of the first power unit of the BelNPP, public hearings will be held. Their goal is to bring to the public information about the progress and results of the safety examination and assessment of the applicant's compliance with the licensing requirements and conditions.
