Belgariad & Beyond

Where Sondra’s diving deep into surface irritation and prophesying about sax playing; Alysia’s trusting her intuition and awakening to a pattern of mistaking fear for faith; and they’re both writing again.

Time for Garion to flee through the palace, witness grizzly horror, plunge headfirst into the dark, and STILL have time for eavesdropping.

Random fact: Singing is powerful healing. We often sing when we are happy, or as an expression of grief. Whether we sing or actively listen to someone else sing, our emotional life is affected and the connection to ourselves and our surroundings is deepened. Our bodies are made of 70% water. When we sing the fluids within us vibrate. This process releases blocked energy, influences the whole organism and stimulates our own forces for self-healing.

Where Sondra’s starting over, appreciating iteration and learning from failure, all without being unkind to herself; Alysia’s sifting through dark thoughts and head-fog because gluten is an arse-kicker; and they’re both loving their perfectly imperfect lives.

Time for Garion to tell his tale of the green-cloaked man to Barak and be brought before the kings, and run away from the Murgo in his bedroom.

Random fact: Interestingly, your gut contains 500 million neurons, which are connected to your brain through nerves in your nervous system. So when you overload your tum with too much, or just food that is less than nutritious, the result can be brain-fog.

Where Sondra’s dealing with the curse of the creativist and is inspired to create more things while simultaneously embracing change, and feeling grounded all the way to the centre of the earth; Alysia’s perfectly imperfect and liking it, and has instructions from the universe to watch The Matrix because she’s finally ready for its wisdom; and they’re both podcast mad (but we already knew that).

Time for Garion to recuperate from his tussle with the wild boar and track the man in the green cloak, which leads to double-barrelled eavesdropping with sinister results.

Random fact: Your throat chakra is about the expression of yourself: Your truth, purpose in life, creativity. It’s most commonly represented with the color blue turquoise or aquamarine blue, and is located at the center of the neck at the level of the throat. It is the passage of the energy between the lower parts of the body and the head. The function of the Throat chakra is driven by the principle of expression and communication.

Where Sondra’s celebrating all the phases of creation, Alysia’s believing in herself, and they’re both under the delusion that not being emotionally deep is a capability they occasionally posses.

Time for Garion to don his first chainmail shirt, and go on a boar hunt. Let doom ensue!

Random fact: Reincarnation is the philosophical or religious concept that the non-physical essence of a living being starts a new life in a different physical form or body after biological death.

Where Sondra’s dealing with a tainted potion, the rewards of a beautiful life, and feeling appreciated, and Alysia’s creative space has been invaded but she’s finally letting go of shoulding all over herself.

Time for Garion to get kissed, teased by insensitive grown ups, and be disconcertingly perceptive about romantic adult relationships.

Random fact: Tracking down the possible causes of audio clicks and pops can be a thankless and frustrating task.

Where Sondra gets witchy and rolls her eyes at the poseur priestess, Alysia defends her daughter’s magical childhood, and they both get reverent about the power of words.

Time for Garion observe Silk’s inner turmoil, be denied entry to the meeting of monarchs and relegated to the armory (which is totally preferred over the scullery), and get curious about the dude in the green cloak.

Random fact: Cilices were originally made from sackcloth or coarse animal hair so they would irritate the skin. Other features were added to make cilices more uncomfortable, such as thin wires or twigs. Cilices have been used for centuries in the Catholic Church as a mild form of bodily penance akin to fasting and the practise is more widespread than many observers imagine.

Where Alysia is contemplating mind-junk and getting all glorious in the Artemis power stance, and Sondra is relearning the art of boiling water.

Time for Garion to throw caution to the wind (or into the whirlpool as this case may be) sass Aunt Pol, and have Mr Wolf challenge his behaviour.

Random fact: In January 4, 2005, before giant waves slammed into Sri Lanka and India coastlines, wild and domestic animals seemed to know what was about to happen and fled to safety. According to eyewitness accounts, the following events happened:

• Elephants screamed and ran for higher ground.

• Dogs refused to go outdoors.

• Flamingos abandoned their low-lying breeding areas.

• Zoo animals rushed into their shelters and could not be enticed to come back out.

Where we discover that camping (even in a cabin) is not Alysia’s bag, baby, Sondra’s bouncing around all over the bloody place until she suddenly isn’t, and they both decide that sneaking a flask of something alcoholic into one’s backpack would be totally acceptable for a girl scout camp in a very cold mountain region.

Time for Garion to learn how to elect a king and overhear a momentus secret that shatters his world, and for a couple of thus far hidden nobles to be exposed.

Where Sondra’s body is hiccuping but she’s finally listening, Alysia’s loving her family all being around for Christmas (but, damn…), and they manage to find a lighter side of mother-guilt and the associated self-criticism that comes with it.

Time for Garion to discover his parents names, which do NOT sound Sendarian, and to be cast into confusion by the stunning appearance of the Duchess of Erat.

Random fact: It’s not a great audio choice to wear a stack of jingly bangles when recording a podcast.

Where Sondra’s balancing light and dark, Alysia’s getting into Elf on the Shelf magic, and they both agree that a banana always make it better.

Time for Garion to swing into his first fight, and we wonder just how deep his connection to the dark figure actually goes.
