I have struggled with emotional eating for awhile now. There are three things I am doing to try and combat the stress, anxiety, and depression that emotional eating has added to my life. As a result of my postpartum depression I realized I have gained weight as a coping mechanism from the added stress of doing it all as a single mother. I had to be honest with myself and face my emotional eating habits. Here are the things I am doing to wok through this and overcome it.

I am glad I finally have the courage to acknowledge my emotional eating patterns and now that I have it is time for me to take action. As I grow and walk through this journey I hope my experience can help you if you have gained weight too as a result of ongoing stress, anxiety, or depression. Life can be very stressful and uncertain at times because of all that we are facing lately. Here's to building healthier habits and investing in our mental health in 2022 cause we deserve it!

Do you ever feel like you lack unconditional self love and wonder what it would do for your stress and anxiety if you were more patient and graceful toward yourself? Sometimes we are actually our own harshest critics and our inner critic causes us added and unnecessary stress and anxiety. It is good for us to start retraining our minds to let go of the idea of being perfect and just start meeting ourselves where we are at. Learning to be more present and in the flow when we feel frustrated can really make a positive difference for our mental health. 

There is power in evaluating our thoughts as they occur in our minds before we react or take action. Asking ourselves if we do or say this will it actually benefit my relationship with myself is huge step to decreasing our stress and anxiety. It takes time and patience to do this, but eventually our minds can begin to adapt to this new way of thinking. I used to let the actions of my parents really get to me mentally and hurt me so deeply. All their words and actions or lack thereof really caused me so much stress and anxiety. Until I realized their actions had nothing to do with me and I reclaimed power over my own life and my thoughts.

Investing in ourselves mentally, physically, and spiritually is an act of radical and unconditional self love. However, when we take those action steps we will find our anxiety and stress levels decrease. Loving yourself changes things when you are healing from past trauma because it allows you to accept yourself where you are at and step into the healing process for your mental health journey. Giving yourself credit for the battles you have fought and the warrior you are empowers you mentally to take positive and life changing action. 

Evaluating where you are at and deciphering what truly causes you stress and anxiety on a daily basis makes a difference. Pure and genuine self love helps you give yourself grace and motivates you to overcome the stress and anxiety your thoughts may have been adding to. Accepting myself for who I am and being comfortable with where I am at has helped me reduce some of the intense anxiety and stress I have been facing throughout my life. As we go into 2022 let's have conversations about healing our relationship with ourselves so we can practice more self love. When we decide to love ourselves for the battles we have fought and the beautiful warriors we are we will be empowered to overcome the depression, stress and anxiety we have been struggling with for so long.

This past year I was able to overcome so many obstacles because of the women I has surrounding me. Many people walked out of my life, but that is okay because it made room for the right people to come into it. I am thankful for those who support me because they helped me overcome the odds I have been facing this past year. If you don't have a strong support system for your mental health you will feel like you are facing it all alone. When you start surrounding yourself with people who want the best for you then you will get through it. This past year I gained so many people who really have my best interest at heart into my life.

Our guest today, Mandy is a Female Army Veteran who served in the National Guard from 2011-2017.  She deployed to Afghanistan back in 2012 and suffers from ongoing PTSD and general anxiety as a result of that deployment.  Outside of the military, Mandy is also a survivor of a suicide attempt when she was a teenager.  Now, she is actively involved in the Shenango community and loves advocating for mental health issues.  She’s faced a lot in her life, but she’s also overcome a lot.  She’s really taken hold of her health and has lost nearly 40 pounds over the last year… all the while working a full time job and raising her three-year old daughter, Noelle.  On today’s episode, she’ll some more of her story and give us some tips and tricks to setting your goals up for success.

The power of visualization can help us get to the next level. Each year I always create a vision board for myself, but this year I hope we can do it together as a community. When we see the life we want in our minds and what we hope for it helps us get to where we want to go. This year, as I think about manifestation, I am hoping to improve my mental health and physical health in ways I have never been able to do before.

If we do it together as friends, we can give each other more accountability and have fun at the same time. I'm so grateful for the recent calendar photoshoot experience. It was a healing experience for all. 2022 will be the best year ever and different for me in terms of my health and the things I want to do to improve my mental state. Making a visual representation of our goals can help us have the physical and mental health we dream of.  Mental practices like visualization can increase motivation, confidence, and even motor performance. It's important to remember to visualize your goals when you're working towards improving your mental and physical health. In one study, researchers found that in athletes, visualization was almost as effective as physical practice.

I'm hoping to get more comfortable with my body this coming year. Putting pictures of other women that inspire me on my vision board or myself at my best version is empowering. Using words like "confidence" on my board will help me visualize a greater future for myself as well. Take a moment to reflect on two things that matter the most to you. For me, it's my physical and mental health. Bring those two things that matter the most to you at the forefront of your mind. Focus on the words or quotes you find the most powerful, for me they are, "stress less" and "don't worry, be happy". 

When you map out your goals with the goal getter guidebook select two main areas of your life that are the most important to you. This will help you create that vision for yourself in 2022. Today, I had a podcast guest named Aliz David who is a health coach and a Chronic Illness Warrior. We talked about how stress and managing it helps us improve our health. Aliz David is an IBD warrior, health coach, and mom. She is very familiar with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns disease along with other chronic illnesses. Her health journey while living with chronic illness is very inspiring. So many times we can attribute stress to our gut health. This episode is very interesting if you want to learn more about STRESS can impact our health! 

As women it is not uncommon for us to feel overwhelmed and stressed out. We are all used to making sure we take care of everyone else that sometimes we forget to check in with ourselves. This can lead to stress and our health can start to suffer mentally from the self neglect. We never do this intentionally and it is okay to recognize we you are more stressed out than you know you should be. When we find ways to practice stress management in a successful way that works for us we can see our health improve over all and our habits get much better.

IBD AWARENESS WEEK is this week and as some of you may know I am an IBD Warrior myself. I live with a j-pouch now and have ulcerative colitis. I previously had an ostomy bag and on today's episode I have a conversation with the host of the About IBD podcast her name is Amber Tresca and she has a similar story to mine a lot of ways. She does a lot to inform others about IBD and what it is like to live with it. 

Amber is an IBD patient (diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 1989) who has been writing and editing patient-facing content for the IBD community since 2000 both for major online outlets and on her own site, AboutIBD.com. After 10 years of active disease, medical therapy failed and she underwent the 2 step j-pouch surgery (removal of the large intestine and creation of an internal pouch from the last part of the small intestine). In 2017, she began the About IBD Podcast to educate people living with IBD about their disease and to bring awareness to the patient journey. She founded IBDMoms with Brooke Abbott of The Crazy Creole Mommy Chronicles to support moms who are touched by an IBD. She currently works as a speaker, facilitator, and advocate for people  with IBD as well as a freelance writer and editor for medical web sites and publications.

I go into details about my experience with Ulcerative Colitis on today’s podcast episode and during a few upcoming episodes. This week is IBD awareness week and I wanted to create content for you surrounding my chronic illness so I could tell you more about myself and hopefully provide some insight on some of the things I learned from the past 7 years with all my health battles. When I look back on my experience I realize how being your own health advocate needs to be more normalized. So many of us are told to trust our doctors blindly, but it is good to always advocate for your own health because you are the only one living in your body. I feel like if I would have known more about this earlier my health problems could have been way less severe….
