For believers, the death of Jesus was part of His divine plan to save humanity. The death and resurrection of Jesus are at the very heart of our Christian faith. For believers, it is through Jesus' death that our broken relationship with God is restored.

MMM: “before we present ourselves to Him, we must learn to prepare ourselves for Him” - Ecc. 9:8 (KJV) let your garments always be white, and let your head lack no oil.

Josh 24:14 - 15 (NLT) 14 “So fear the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD alone. 

15 But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.” 

Joshua = Heb. yehōshu'a (abrv. Yeshua). Yeshua = Gk. Jesus. "YHWH (God) is salvation" 

Real Clear 

* Joshua made it clear that the people of Israel had to make a decision to serve the Lord God of Israel. There could be no neutrality. But if they served the Lord, then they would have to get rid of the false gods that some of them secretly were worshiping. Even after the great experience of the Exodus, some of the Jews still sacrificed to the gods of Egypt. 

Lev 17:7 (NLT) 7 The people must no longer be unfaithful to the LORD by offering sacrifices to the goat idols. This is a permanent law for them, to be observed from generation to generation. 

* Joshua wasn’t suggesting that the people could choose to worship the false gods of the land, and God would accept it; for there was no other option but to serve Jehovah. Being a wise and spiritual man, Joshua knew that everybody must worship something or someone, whether they realized it or not, because humanity is typically religious. * If the Jews didn’t worship the true God, they would end up worshiping the false gods of the wicked nations in Canaan. His point was that they couldn’t do both. 

Matt 6:24 (NLT) 24“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. 

* “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” is a promise to do the best we can to make sure that everything that takes place inside the home honors God. It is also a prayer that the children raised there will follow in the faith of their parents.
