  • The Best Book I've Ever Read with... Peyton: fan of everything bookish (+ a shawn mendes stan)

In the first episode of the season, I got to talk with one of my very best bookish friends, Peyton. Peyton runs a very aesthetic booktube account and makes bookish content on pinterest and instagram. We talk about our mutual love for filmmaking and how that has helped shape and inspire the videos Peyton creates. We discuss all of her favorite books and how she differentiates those from what she decides is the best book she’s ever read.

  • Introducing: The Best Book I've Ever Read with... (new season!!)

Why do you read the books that you read? How did you discover you loved the books you do? Where do you find these books? Everyone’s answers to these questions will be different.  Our reasons for this all come from our own experiences with reading. It’s such an interesting concept. So I decided to explore it.

Every other Monday on this new season of Bella’s Bookish Banter, we’ll be joined by a new guest ranging from avid readers, to book bloggers to people who read a book once a year, in order to explore why this is. I’ll be asking them about the best book they've ever read, how they found it and why they consider it to be so. In this series, we’ll explore all the different ways books can influence and affect people and how even their own experiences influence their perception of a book. Everyone perceives books differently, we all enjoy reading different things but all of those opinions are just as valid as the next.  On this season we’ll  dive into all of the reasons for that and more. Stay tuned!

  • support your local libraries!

This week's episode of the pod, I rant about the importance of libraries and all the ways they provide for our communities. By giving everyone the opportunity to access literature while also providing so many more services, libraries are pretty vital to us and you should go support your local library! I talk about all the ways you can help support your library so that these services can continue to be provided and access to books will always be available in the future.

Libraries are so cool and extremely underrated, go check out your local library for all the services they provide, show up and show them some love!

  • books that made me fall in love with reading over and over (and over and over...)

On this week's episode of the pod, I want to take a moment to appreciate all of the books that have made me fall in love with reading over and over (and over and over and over again...)

From ages 6, when I first learned how to read, all the way up until now, where I even have a podcast to discuss my favourite books, I'm going to be looking at every single book that has kept me up into the early hours of the morning reading, keeping me flipping through pages, falling in love with the worlds within and encouraged the love for for reading that I have today.

  • BOOK REVIEW: Not Here To Be Liked by Michelle Quach
This weeks episode I discuss all about the book "Not Here To Be Liked" by Michelle Quach. I go over all of my favourite parts, characters and quotes, as well as talk about some critiques I may have of the book.

Eliza Quan is the perfect candidate for editor in chief of her school paper. That is, until ex-jock Len DiMartile decides on a whim to run against her. Suddenly her vast qualifications mean squat because inexperienced Len—who is tall, handsome, and male—just seems more like a leader. When Eliza’s frustration spills out in a viral essay, she finds herself inspiring a feminist movement she never meant to start, caught between those who believe she’s a gender equality champion and others who think she’s simply crying misogyny.
Amid this growing tension, the school asks Eliza and Len to work side by side to demonstrate civility. But as they get to know one another, Eliza feels increasingly trapped by a horrifying realization—she just might be falling for the face of the patriarchy himself.

  • the “romance is not real literature” mindset (video episode!)
“Romance books are not real reading! They're too predictable! They're just fluff! ” We’ve all heard it before. Romance as a genre is so often discredited, referred to as badly written, mindless fluff and labeled as not “real literature”. In this weeks episode of the pod, I talk a bit about the romance genre, explore why its not seen as a “legitimate form” of reading and the implied misogyny behind that mindset.

Some sources I talked about in the episode:
Turning the Page. How women became readers. By Joan Acocella
The “Romance Novels Are Less Legitimate” Mindset by mollyrookwood
I Can’t Believe People Are Still Questioning if Romance Novels Are “Real Books” BY LEAH JOHNSON
