- Based around the Buddha (enlightened one) Siddhartha Gautama → tell the story of the buddha's enlightenment.
The middle path. Avoid the extremes of either self-indulgence or self-denial.The four noble truths.- Dukkha → suffering (dissatisfaction) is everywhere.
Samudaya → the cause of suffering is attachment or desire (craving & aversion), rooted in ignorance. Impermanence (Annicca)Nirodha → the end of suffering is Nirvana; anyone can free themselves. Egolessness (Anatta)Maggo → There is a path that leads out of suffering, namely the eight fold noble path- Right view, right thought, right speech, right conduct, right vocation, right effort, right attention and right concentration.
The eightfold noble path → Sila (morality), Samaddhi (right mindfulness), Panna (wisdom)- right view: inisight into the true nature of reality
Right intention: the unselfish desire for enlightenmentRight speech: Wholesome speechRight action: wholesome action → preceptsRight livelihood: Make a living through ethical and wholesome meansRight effort: cultivating wholesome qualities, releasing unwholesome qualitiesRight mindfulness: whole body-and-mind awarenessRight concentration: Meditative practice- Hindiusm → monistic vs dualistic
- the atman → the eternal self, spirit & essen. True self as opposed to the ego (the dying part)
Brahman → the force underlying all things.- The Holy Triad → Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva (Robbert Oppenheimer speech)
