Psychologists love AI notetakers, we have seem a boom in their usage.  They are fast and efficient, and mostly pretty reliable.

What they don't have is discretion.  Psychologists notes are already so long that they typically dont read them.  Long narratives, interesting but irrelevant factoids, and opinion dressed up as reality.

Lawyers subpoena our notes routinely on the off chance they will find something juicy.

Deliberate practice relies on the ability to do something over and over again until you get it right.

In Medicine, as in psychotherapy it can be hard to "practice" without hurting someone.  Doctors practice on cadavers, pig hearts and all many of simulated flesh, for us it can be much harder.

In this episode we look at the efficacy effectiveness gap, that is why do so many therapies look amazing in a research setting, but then deliver less than stellar results in the real world.

In this episode we take a slightly different approach.  Although the episode was inspired by a paper by Halford Pepping and Petch exploring this gpa in the couples therapy literature, it got the two of us curious to know whether the same gap existed in other areas.
