The Kaimuki Kasha House is one of the most famous Hawaii ghost stories ever told—a haunted Honolulu legend tied to Glen Grant, old police reports, disputed addresses, and decades of local folklore. In this episode, we follow the reported incidents, the later retellings, and the storyteller who understood that in Hawaii, a ghost story is never just about fear. It is about place, memory, belief, and the things a neighborhood refuses to forget.
This episode stays with the record where the record holds, and says so when it doesn’t. We trace the 1942 Kaimuki haunting report, the later 1972 account, the rise of the Kaimuki Kasha House legend, and Glen Grant’s role in preserving Hawaii ghost stories with care instead of turning them into cheap spectacle.
If this episode means something to you, follow the show on Spotify and share it with someone who still believes old stories deserve respect.

Nancy Anderson murder, Waikiki cold case, Hawaii true crime, Tudor Chirila, DNA evidence, and genetic genealogy all come together in this revisited episode of Beneath the Palms.
In 1971, 19-year-old Nancy Elaine Anderson left the mainland for Honolulu because, as her family later put it, she simply wanted to see what life in Hawaii was like. She was a John Glenn High School graduate from Bay City, Michigan, working at McDonald’s at Ala Moana Center, living in Waikiki, and building a life that was still just beginning.
On January 7, 1972, Nancy was found murdered inside her apartment at Coral Terrace on Aloha Drive. For more than 50 years, her family waited for the answer to one question: who killed Nancy?
This episode follows Nancy’s life before Hawaii, the first confusing days of the investigation, the early focus on the two cutlery salesmen, the locked-apartment access questions, the bloody towel evidence, the decades her family kept pushing, and the DNA breakthrough that finally led police to former Nevada deputy attorney general Tudor Chirila.
Chirila was indicted and brought back to Honolulu, but he died in custody before trial. That means this is a solved cold case through police investigation and DNA evidence, but it never ended with a jury verdict. The truth arrived late, and still incomplete.

Jonathan Fraser disappearance, Michael Miske case, Hawaii Kai missing person, Honolulu organized crime, FBI reward, Miske Enterprise—this revisited episode of Beneath the Palms goes back through one of the most haunting and complicated cases in modern Hawaii history.
Jonathan Fraser was 21 when he vanished from Hawaii Kai in July 2016. What began as a missing-person case eventually became one of the central threads in the federal racketeering prosecution of Michael Miske and the Miske Enterprise. This revisited version exists because more of the public record came into view, the legal ending changed in a major way, and this story deserved a cleaner, fuller telling.
In this episode, we follow Jonathan’s life before the headlines, the 2015 crash that killed Caleb Miske, the prosecution’s theory that revenge drove what happened next, the years-long federal investigation, the 2020 indictment, the 2024 guilty verdicts, and the painful truth that Jonathan’s body has never been found. We also separate the verified record from later unsealed-affidavit reporting, courtroom argument, and public speculation.
If you follow Hawaii true crime, missing persons, Honolulu crime history, FBI cases, racketeering trials, or the Michael Miske story, this is one of the defining cases. And at the center of all of it is still a young man who never came home.
If this episode means something to you, follow Beneath the Palms, share it with someone who cares about Hawaii history and unresolved cases, and help keep Jonathan Fraser’s name in the world.

The Honolulu Exorcism Story explores a whispered 1970s Kalihi case in Honolulu, Hawaii—an alleged possession story at the crossroads of Catholic exorcism, Native Hawaiian spiritual beliefs, oral history, and local ghost lore. This episode follows what can be documented, separates fact from legend, and asks what really happened when a young woman’s private suffering became part of Hawaii’s darker folklore.
There is no clean public file, no fully verified identity, and no confirmed official record that settles this case. What does exist is real context: Catholic teaching on exorcism, modern reporting on Hawaii’s exorcists, Hawaiian healing traditions such as ho'oponopono, and preserved Kalihi stories about spirit possession, fear, and memory in the neighborhood.
If you’re drawn to Hawaii true crime, Hawaiian ghost stories, unsolved mysteries, exorcism cases, possession stories, and the line between religion, culture, and fear, this episode is for you. Janine Meyer murder in Waikiki, Hawaii. In this revisited Episode 16 of Beneath the Palms, we return to the 2013 killing of a Honolulu woman who told family she was afraid before she was found dead in a dumpster behind the Hawaiian Colony in Waikiki.
When this podcast first launched, I told Janine’s story without all of the factual detail that became clearer later. This retelling comes back with a stronger public record: the reported threat at the shelter, the gap between warning and death, the Medical Examiner’s ruling of asphyxiation, the witness account and surveillance described in reporting, the second-degree murder charge, the later manslaughter plea, and the 20-year sentence that closed the case without a full jury verdict.
Janine was more than the place she was found. She was a Honolulu woman remembered by family as sweet, always laughing, and willing to help the people she loved. This episode stays close to what public reporting, court coverage, and other documented sources can actually support. Where the record is clear, we stay with it. Where it goes thin, we say so plainly.

The Oda family murders in Manoa, Hawaii left Honolulu reeling. In this revisited Episode 12 of Beneath the Palms, we follow the verified record behind the killings of Naoko Oda, Sakurako Oda, Orion Oda, and Nana Oda, the financial collapse investigators said came before the violence, and the grief that spread through Manoa after the family was lost.
This is a fact-based retelling built from police statements, public records, and local reporting. Where the record is clear, we stay with it. Where the conversation moves into interpretation, rumor, or theory, that line is clearly marked.

Jason Nam murder case. In this revisited Hawaii true crime episode, we examine the unsolved 2006 killing of 31-year-old Jason Nam, who was shot in broad daylight while washing his car outside his South Beretania Street apartment in Honolulu. Nearly two decades later, the case remains open, the suspects have never been publicly identified, and Jason’s family is still waiting for answers.
This episode stays with the verified record first: the stolen Nissan Maxima, the three masked men, the witness who saw part of one suspect’s face, the burned getaway car found later in Mililani, and the years of silence that turned this killing into one of Honolulu’s haunting unsolved murder cases. We also revisit the public rumors carefully and keep them separate from fact.
Jason was more than a cold case. He was a son, a brother, Sandra Pratt’s high school sweetheart, and a man with plans for a future that should have been much longer. If you know anything about the murder of Jason Nam, please contact Honolulu CrimeStoppers at (808) 955-8300.

Michael Miske Jr. looked, on the surface, like a Honolulu businessman with reach, money, and influence. In this revisited episode of Beneath the Palms, we go back through the rise of the Miske Enterprise, the disappearance of Johnathan Fraser, the federal racketeering case, the 99-day trial, the July 2024 guilty verdict, Miske’s death in custody, and the legal aftermath that left the story resolved on paper in some ways, and unfinished in others.
This is a fact-based episode built from court records, federal filings, FBI releases, and reporting tied directly to the case. If you have searched for Michael Miske Jr., the Miske Enterprise, Johnathan Fraser, Honolulu organized crime, Hawaii racketeering, or the Miske trial, this episode is designed to give you the clearest narrative spine without losing the human weight underneath it.

Honolulu Strangler. Hawaii true crime. Unsolved serial killer. The murders of Vicki Purdy, Regina Sakamoto, Denise Hughes, Louise Medeiros, and Linda Pesce remain one of the darkest unresolved cases in Honolulu history.
In this revisited episode of Beneath the Palms, we return to the Honolulu Strangler case, a series of unsolved murders that shook Oahu between 1985 and 1986. Five women disappeared from ordinary places — a night out in Waikiki, a missed bus, a workday, a ride home — and were later found bound, strangled, and sexually assaulted near waterways and airport-side corridors.
This full redo rebuilds the story from the ground up. We stay close to the verified record, follow the investigation as Honolulu police and the FBI searched for a pattern, and look carefully at the public suspect most often tied to the case: Howard Gay, who was questioned but never charged or convicted.
We also step into public theory and online discussion with care — including questions about the airport corridor, possible military connections, why the killings stopped, and whether modern DNA or genetic genealogy could still matter if usable evidence was preserved. None of that speculation is presented as fact. The verified truth remains this: five women were murdered, no one was convicted, and the case remains unresolved.
If you know anything about the murders of Vicki Gail Purdy, Regina Sakamoto, Denise Hughes, Louise Medeiros, or Linda Pesce, contact the Honolulu Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 808-723-3609. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Honolulu CrimeStoppers at 808-955-8300, by dialing *CRIME from a Hawaii-based cell phone, or through the CrimeStoppers website.

Before Hawaii watched the shotgun taped to Tom McNeil’s head, Sherry Lynn Holmes was already missing.
This fully revisited episode of Beneath the Palms returns to the 1996 Sand Island hostage crisis in Honolulu, Hawaii, when John Miranda entered his former workplace, Seal Masters of Hawaii, armed with a shotgun, shot company vice president Guy George, held workers hostage, and forced Tom McNeil into one of the most unforgettable live television standoffs in Hawaii crime history.
But this story is not only about the image Hawaii remembers. It is also about Sherry Lynn Holmes, a 32-year-old woman from Waldorf, Maryland, whose body was later found near Kawainui Marsh, wrapped in plastic and placed inside a cardboard box. Her death was hidden before the public standoff began, and her name belongs at the center of this story.
This episode looks at the full human cost of that day: Tom McNeil’s survival, Sherri Davidson’s terror as she watched the man she loved from outside the scene, Guy George’s wound and escape, the workers forced to the floor, and the long aftermath of trauma that did not end when the cameras turned away.
This is a story about workplace violence, domestic violence, survival, public memory, and the people who should never be reduced to one photograph.
If this episode stays with you, share it with someone who remembers that day, or someone who only knows the image. The people inside this story deserve to be remembered as people.
Mahalo to Yoza for the song “Broken Wings.”
